When you have a slim majority, individual members have more power.

That's not what I was responding to, though.

A popular belief in MAGA circles is that MAGA is the majority of the party now, but they can't get many MAGA people actually elected to the House. It's like 10% of reps at max strength. Even if you double that to account for institutional roadblocks, it's nowhere close to the majority of the party

I wouldn't hate the idea, but what actually gets done with Trump as Speaker?

Other than sound bites.

Not all that much for a first round of voting when you really want something like 75%-80% before feeling like you can start considering taking it to the floor for a formal vote.

Again, if Scalise is stepping aside then that means Jordan is the last one on Survivor Island (unless someone else has suddenly jumped in and has the potential to carry more votes than Jordan).

They are becoming obstructionists.
Too many don’t want to bow to the will of the majority.

And McCain et all were nowhere near the center of the party for years when they would leverage their position to do shite against the will of the majority.

This is why people such as Lisa Murkowski are so despised by people outside Alaska.

Hakeem Jeffries wants the job, and I project that he'll get it, with 213 D votes and 5 R.

Yes, but they would use their leverage to get favorable legislation passed. They didn’t use it to the detriment of the party.

Seriously Clark?

Arlen Specter, for one, would torpedo shite wanted by the rest of the party repeatedly then, when it became clear the people back home were pissed, he flipped sides and then got primaried THERE too.

McCain intentionally killed ObamaCare reform in a big show on the floor in a fit of pique.

These people would push their own policies over that of the party then would tank what the rest of the party wanted.

Kevin Hern was exploring running for SOTH but decided to instead run for Majority Leader:

Congressman Kevin Hern
@repkevinhern
I am running for Majority Leader.

Once we unify and elect a Speaker, our leadership team will need a policy-focused conservative Majority Leader.

I promise you no one will outwork me, listen more carefully, or advance the Republican legislative agenda more faithfully than me.

I was commenting on party matters, not legislation.

Did they ever undercut party leaders openly in Congress? They never denied their leaders a majority in the house or senate,or caucused with the Dems.

But no question, certain Senators bolted ranks to grandstand or to get favors.
