There you go again. Stereotyping all Southern European accents.

I wrote "tend". That leaves some wiggle-room. Maybe effeminate wasn't the right word. Go ahead and look up a Greek or Italian film or short on youtube (I'm assuming you don't own any foreign language films because of where you grew up). Now imagine that accent in the movie "300" or on the series "Rome". It would gay up the whole set.

Agreed. I also hated when Germans spoke English, but half the stuff I watch is subtitled.
I mean, I'm sure there are enough Jewish, and Greek actors to play those roles in Epics set in the times of the Greek and Roman empires. It might be a little tricky to get Latin in movies, but I'd rather see that than people sounding British when I really want to get the feel for those languages being spoken and feel more immersed.

Did he mention that the character wasn't blond and had a scar on his face? A chain smoker?

There was a lot of bitching from Bond fans when Craig was chosen because he was short and had blond hair. They also bitched because he was Welsh. He was only accepted after the movie came out and he was a pretty good Bond. The smoking was a PC choice, but I don't think fans have really noticed...at least not casual fans.

Hollywood has been lying and has been casting Egyptians as white people for 50+ years. Haven't heard a peep from you

Well the PB wasn't around 50 years ago. And there has been a lot of bitching about the casting of the Exodus.

White Jesus is really how most people see Jesus and that can be blamed on Renaissance artist. They painted Jesus as white with blond hair and it has stuck. Even if it is probably not remotely accurate historically.

I do absolutely remember this. I was pulling for Clive Owen and disappointed when Craig was picked. Then he turned out to be badass.

Yep. Larry the Cable Guy as Kunta Kinte would not go over very well and I wouldn't want to see Denzel Washington as Barney Fife. Some things are left well enough alone.

I don't know about that...he just seems too stiff. He would be too much like George Lazenby mixed with a little Pierce Brosnan.

I thought he was the best of the serious prospects. And Lazenby was terrible, but I actually thought Brosnan was a decent Bond. But besides GoldenEye, the movies of his era were shite.

That wasn't Brosnan's fault. The writing was shite and they went WAY overboard with the CGI and crazy schemes.

Goldeneye was far and away his best. Tomorrow Never Dies was tolerable. The World Is Not Enough was meh. Die Another Day was shite.

Could there be a more of disingenuous OP than what you just foisted on this board?
Do you get talking points from Stop Rush, Unite Blue or OFA?
I heard his riff. He was using irony and the absurd. He was talking about the hacked e-mails from Sony, and how they were potentially embarrassed by those jokes and the jokes they made about Obama. Those Leftists are such cowards they immediately put Al Sharpton on the Board, as "protection".
Geez. Hope you put a sense of humor on your Wish List, you certainly need one.

The first time I watch On Her Majesties Secret Service I didn't even know I was watching a Bond movie until like 20 minutes into it when someone said Bond. He was just awful!

Brosnan was alright but the movies were just too 90's and crap.

As to the OP's argument, Rush is a blow hard and most of the time full of himself and shite. But I agree with him on this. I like Idris as an actor and I think he could pull it off and he would probably excellent, but I just don't think it would feel right. If he was a spy by any other name he would probably be great.

Love the Borne movies, but Damon as Bond would just not be right.

Exactly my point.

Yep.

Tomorrow Never Dies was shite. The World Is Not Enough was meh, but Sophie Marceau was the bomb back then. Die Another Day made my eyes bleed and made me embarrassed to be a Bond fan.

FIFY. I mean back to the subject at hand, Die Another Day had a white guy playing a North Korean.

Not nearly as much of a farce as Denise Richards playing a nuclear physicists! I think the White Korean and a white Shaft are more credible than that leap!

Tomorrow Never Dies did have Michelle Yeoh.

As for The World Is Not Enough, Sophie Marceau was the bomb.com, but I was never able to get passed Denise Richards as the nuclear physicist, Dr. Christmas Jones.

It wasn't completely bad though.

Die Another Day was just awful. Complete crap.

On a side note, I loved Sophie Marceau in Braveheart.

I disagree. And I have listened to Rush on and off since 1988. When he does what you say he is doing, he's actually very good at it and it's often funny (or at least it used to be).

The bottom line is his point about the ACTOR not being Scottish is stupid.

I heard it yesterday. He was being funny mocking the hypocrisy of the Sony Executives, the PC crowd that would fall apart if a White person played say, Nelson Mandela, etc.

Really, GAWKER?

This. He speaks his mind and he isn't PC, so he's a goldmine of soundbites that the left can take out of context to try to play "gotcha".

Regarding the black James Bond: I understand his point. Yeah, it's a black actor in this case, but I'm sure Rush would've said the same thing if it were a white woman playing the lead role (Jamie "James" Bond?) I felt that way about Lucy Liu playing the role of Watson in the show Elementary. Even in fictitious stories, certain characters have attributes that make them who they are in the eyes of the reader/watcher, and it's just not "right" when those things get changed, especially if it is for political reasons for shock value.

I'll probably still watch the movie, though. It's almost obligatory to watch new Bond films.
