this is a prime example of foolish leftists destroying a good thing and taking away a big part of what is good and "great" about America

taking the elephants away from the circus was a devastating blow

I bought 4 tickets to the Circus here in Birmingham, AL just a few days ago - I was pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive the tix were

I would have rather paid a little more and let my baby girl see the heffalumps...

had no idea this would be the last show ever

hopefully, an investor will swoop in and save the day

frick California. frick North Carolina (at least, frick the morons that run the big cities there - groups in LA & Charlotte forced the circus to not bring the elephants there before they were removed from the show)

this is a real travesty; we are losing another part of ALL of our childhood memories

One of my favorite memories was back in the late 1970's when my Mom unexpectantly showed up at school to check my sister and I out to take us to downtown Birmingham for the circus parade. She wouldn't tell us where we were going until we got to the car, I guess because it wasn't an acceptable excuse. Of course that made it all the more fun. I'm not sure if it was just a planned parade or if they had brought the animals in by train. The parade originated down 20th street near Morris Avenue and the route took them to the Civic Center. Previously a circus parade had just been something from childhood story books and it was cool to see the real thing.

Let us know how much you spend when you get in the door....they will give you tickets to get in the door to buy $20 bags of cotton candy.

I took my little girl to a Ringling Brothers show about 2 years ago and we spent about $300 for the 4 of us (my Son was 15 at the time so all he did was eat peanuts and drink cokes...at about %8 a pop!!!) after getting free tickets...ring side seats....because we showed up before the first night to see the elephants. They are experts at parting a fool and his money...not as good as Disney (those frickers might as well get your PIN and all of your passwords for as little as they will leave with you LOL).

I have always hated circuses and parades....I don't think Ringling and Brothers is a victim of animal rights activists as much as a victim of doing the same shite for 147 years....it was played in the 70's....my little girl couldn't have been less interested in the show...so the elephants stood on one another and the motorcycles went round and round inside a ball....have you seen YouTube, Netflix, or a video game in the last 20 years???? The only way the circus can compete with that shite is if the lions get out and eat all the rich fricks in the first couple of rows...otherwise todays kids just ain't interested....

Major League Baseball is the next to go....they have to have playgrounds in the stadium now to keep kids remotely interested and 99% of the baseball fans in the stands are texting and playing candy crush while the game is going on....times are changing.....circuses are a thing of the past.....

and the difference between that and a $5 small coke at the movies?

or a $12 slice of pizza at a Falcons or Saints game?

get real - that is the way it is at ANY entertainment or travel venue & has been that way my whole life...

you know that snacks and drinks are outrageous, it's the primary way they make money (the show AND the venue)

maybe so

but it's still sad

ETA - I am expecting to spend roughly $80 - $150

me, the wife, 2 kids (9 & 6) - between snacks & bullshite souvenirs - will probably loosen up and spend more than I normally would since this will be the last show...

The theater is good but they are pikers along side Ringling Brothers....they are non-stop with things to buy....seriously I think we paid $15 for a bag of cotton candy...which costs about a nickel in Floss

You will be getting out cheap at that. Especially with kids that age...they are right in the comfort zone for everything they sale at the Circus LOL....

I hope they have a good time and the whole family enjoys it....it is special when they are that age!!!

It's sad that so many people are mad about this since it means they find animal cruelty entertaining.

All the elephants did was speed up their inevitable end. Ticket sales were still slumping before the elephants were taken away and their overhead was huge. The free market ultimately killed the circus by their votes (or lack there of) with the almighty dollar. People simply didn't buy tickets anymore.

This shouldn't even be talked about on the poli board.

Yep.. PETA is taking credit.

PETA says Zoos are next!

quote:

Thirty-six years of PETA protests, of documenting animals left to die, beaten animals, and much more, has reduced attendance to the point of no return.

quote:

All other animal circuses, roadside zoos, and wild animal exhibitors, including marine amusement parks like SeaWorld and the Miami Seaquarium, must take note: society has changed, eyes have been opened, people know now who these animals are, and we know it is wrong to capture and exploit them.

And if they have their way... you won't be hunting anymore either.

They are "changing" Public opinion and once public opinion has changed, hunting will no longer be allowed.

quote:

Although it was a crucial part of humans’ survival 100,000 years ago, hunting is now nothing more than a violent form of recreation that the vast majority of hunters do not need for subsistence.1 Hunting has contributed to the extinction of animal species all over the world

But hey... no biggie. one step at a time.

They go to your kids and explain things like this:

9 things you didn't know about huntig

quote:

When animals are killed, families are broken up, often leaving young animals to perish of starvation or attacks by other animals. For animals such as wolves, who mate for life and live in close-knit family units, hunting can devastate entire communities.

It's how they have changed laws, it's how they changed public opinion on Seaworld. ETC. Start with young kids. Tell them how cruel it is to families.

Folks have been being cruel to animals since we found out we could. If you and I don't like it then we shouldn't take part in it...which is exactly what has happened, in part, to the circus....enough people found it cruel and didn't go to make a difference....that and the fact that its been a long time since we all lived on farms waking up at the break of dawn and going to bed when the sun sets and if we didn't wake up with an erection we wouldn't have anything to play with all day long and neither would our sisters....there is simply too much competition for circus acts to compete with....

You're correct. A lot of live entertainment is finding it difficult to keep up.

Hell, I don't even enjoy going to some zoos because of the conditions. Like the circus, I have no doubt that the trainers and employees love and care for the animals. It's not about abuse, it's about not finding it pleasant to see elephants that look like they want to shoot themselves living in a .5 acre enclosure.

There's an ap for that I'm sure. Kids aren't entertained with the circus like in times past, and I feel pretty certain that probably has something to do with it.

Would NEVER see or take kids to that shite show...When people tell me they are going to the circus, I laugh, and auto-label them as weird.

Have you been to a ringling brothers show? I went about 10 years ago and it was just absolutely boring. THe acts were stale and tired. Other circuses are booming - Circ De Soleil (sic) continues to expand and their product is fricking fantastic, and involves no animals.

Ringling brothers didn't keep pace with the times, this is why it was relegated to the dustbins of history.

Ringling was a shoot off from Barnum and Bailey. If you ever want to read a fascinating biography pick one up on P.T. Barnum. He was an amazing piece of work.
