Ringling Brothers Circus will shut down

After years of lawsuits from animal rights activist and dwindling ticket sales the circus is calling it quits. Hard to believe that my kids are the last generation to have experienced the 146 year tradition of the greatest show on earth.

Did a search for a link after someone mentioned they were shutting down. CNN was the first one to appear. If it makes you feel better, I didn't read the article.

I won't lose sleep over this. You don't have to be an animal activist to feel empathy for the shitty conditions circus animals live in. Especially the elephants.

What a shame if true,
freaks need jobs too.

The freaks will all just move back home to Livingston Parish

Good. The circus freaking blows.

That's not good for the Democratic party, that will shift the focus to them, as being the biggest circus left...

They were simply no match for the clowns in the Democratic Party.

Turned out the people testifying as witnesses to the cruelty in the last lawsuit were paid by animal organizations. The animal rights organizations were forced to pay $25M in attorney fees to Ringling Brothers.

"The suit stems from litigation that animal rights activists, including an HSUS affiliate, pursued against the owner of the Ringling Bros. circus, Feld Entertainment. In that case, activists claimed that the circus was unlawfully harming elephants in its care, and their key witness was a former Feld handler.
However, as that case unfolded over a decade, a payment scheme was discovered going from plaintiffs and their lawyers to this witness. The court eventually threw out the lawsuit, finding that the witness was a “paid plaintiff” who was “not credible.” This paid witness even “lied” to the court."

The first question I asked my youngest child this morning was, "Did you have a chance to see the circus when they came to town a few years ago?!" I was relieved that he had.
This really saddens me. I have great memories of when I was a child. It was an amazing show. My wife (as a child) got to ride in the opening parade. The circus coming to town was always a big deal and discount coupons would get passed out in the classrooms.
Fast-forward 35 years (about 5 years ago)... I'm walking up to the circus in Austin and there is a crap-load of liberals protesting. Some long-hair tries to call my oldest over by asking, "Hey sweetie, do you know how they get the elephants to do those tricks?" I give him a look that says, "I WILL F*CKING END YOU IF YOU UTTER ONE MORE SOUND TO MY CHILD!" He correctly reads my face and walks off.
We go inside and have a magical time. I'm transported back in time 35 years. Kids are amazed with the sights and sounds, the pageantry, and amazing acts... the Greatest Show on Earth.
Hate to see it end.

If you've read the articles and seen the news the main reason they are shutting down is low ticket sales. Sounds like the market at work so you conservatives shouldn't be mad.

What other forms of entertainment are around in basically their original format after 146 years???
The Circus simply isn't that amazing when you can turn on a TV and see shite that is far and away more amazing than anything a circus troupe can pull off....I never cared for the circus as a kid and have taken my kids and they were never as into the show as they were in buying the shite for sale. It is amazing that there are still circuses at all...imagine the travel budget for fricks sake!!!

I don't need to read an article to know that no elephant wants to be driven around the country in a trailer and perform in front of and carry around a bunch of screaming kids. Like I said earlier, I'm no activist and I don't lose sleep either way.
The bigger worry is going to be what are all those circus-freaks going to do when the circus closes down? All those acts are pretty niche skill sets.

Is the Cole Brothers Circus still around?
