Yes.

The govt shut us a down for over a year.

Now it’s their turn

This is called "kicking the can down the road". And it will continue through infinity because nobody in Congress has the balls to say "no more". And our debt (taxpayers) goes to $90,000 per person. At least to those of us who work and pay in.

The bend, concede, and sell their souls regardless of political affiliation in order to keep their cushy paychecks and benefits at our expense.

Look around at your fellow voters. That's whose fault it is.

Funding the government was a formality....the initial goal was to uncouple the debt ceiling from funding the government.

It seems like that was accomplished.

Next on the agenda is to get the debt ceiling in the reconciliation bill so that Ds have to put a number on the debt limit. I think the Rs believe that with that number they can win the 22 midterms even with the voter fraud....I'm not so sure on that.

I'm not so sure about that....sure the DNC is a mess right now, but they have a great ability to get the progressives in line and keep the moderates in line.

There will be billions of dollars thrown Manchin and Sinema's way....their personal gain may top the personal gain of any congress person in history for a single bill/vote.

The "GOP" only exist to give you the illusion of choice and representation.

I haven't kept up with this whole infrastructure bill because I just assume the Dems will get whatever they want now. What's some of the pork in this one?

Well....it includes basically amnesty and a pathway to citizenship for basically every illegal in the country....including the hundreds that crossed as I typed this post.

Social Security and Medicare are funded separately via "continuing appropriations" and therefore aren't affected if things shut down.

A lot of predictions that our economy is going to implode. I think the Republicans are afraid they will be blamed for the collapsing economy if they don't vote for raising the debt ceiling.

If they agree to vote for the debt ceiling and the reconciliation bill goes through (without forcing the Ds to put it in that bill and set the number)....the R party is done through 2024.

ETA The debt ceiling will get raised....they better force the Ds to put it in that reconciliation bill because if they don't they lose all leverage on it and that bill will be the first death knell for the United States of America. It will turn into a Green New Deal, Socialist, Communist wet dream.

As others have pointed out, the issue was keeping the govt from shutting down. The issue is raising the debt ceiling. Turtle stopped the Dems from being able to do it by majority vote and is trying to force them to do so under reconciliation because they are ramming everything else that way. It forces the Dems to put a number on their spending bill.

I'm well aware of that strategy and I think it is the only play the Rs have to keep any leverage at all on the reconciliation bill.

They will fall in line. They always do. Democrats realize that 75% of what they want is better than 0% of what they want... something the GOP still can't seem to figure out.

That's not the only 2 choices liar. The government still largely operates during a shutdown. It's one of the most inconsequential overblown things there are.

I've never understood why the Dems are not politically scrutinized to hell and back from the media and their constituents when they say this, being they are the ones writing the fricking bill. If they didn't write it who the hell did?
