We have to start tearing down statues of William Howard Taft to show we are serious about this.

We have to stop putting sugar into fricking everything.

Canned vegetables - oh, so good for me (sugar and salt)

Not so good. It would be nice if sugar was just in shite people could recognize as having sugar - so cake lovers and pie lovers can enjoy their sugar - and vegetable and granola bar lovers don't get the same sugar too.

There's no way to tell if you are eating healthy in America. Granola guy is getting the same shite as fatty Patty and her Grocery Store cake.

That's the scary thing...even if you think you are being healthy - well think again. People are waking up and wondering WTF? I don't eat cake 24/7, why am I so fat?

People are being asked to basically go off the grid to be thin - apart from excessive exercising of which nobody has time for.

People need to reduce their carb intake, too. The American diet is shite.

Someone who runs 7 minute miles is not overweight.

people will bash the BMI chat, but it's accurate for the vast majority of people.

if you're 6'0 200 lbs, there's a 90% chance you're a fatty.

While sugar subsidies are a small part of the total farm subsidies I say they should go. (lots of "sugar" in foods come from corn and they are the highest subsidized crop we have)

I think the majority of farm subsidies should go to fruits and vegetables.

I don't necessarily rule out a sin tax on some foods but I certainly think if we are going to have subsidies they should work to make healthy foods cheaper. I know now if I had a very limited food budget I would have to eat a lot of crappy foods.

You know what group of people isn't obese? Methheads. We swap sugar for meth. Problem solved. Heroin also reduces appetite. If we make meth & heroin cheaper, then people will choose those over fatty foods.

frick it, let's tax everything enjoyable. We'll need to change our national anthem to get rid of that pesky "land of the free" part, though. Sugar? Tax it. Salt? Tax it. Beef, alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, cars, tv, movies, sex? Tax it. You want to watch porn & jerk off, then pay the damn tax first. Let's tax cumin, cinnamon, pepper, garlic, & milk while we're at it. You slept past noon. That's a tax. Too many people are addicted to plastic surgery & tattoos. We better tax those, too, as long as we are going to tax people for their own personal choices.

How about we get rid of government subsidies for the poor & require people to pay for their own healthcare instead? Then people can do whatever they want without all the whining from others. I'll never understand why people want to invite the government into their lives to control how they live.

According to the people at my job's health fair I'm obese. I'm 6'0 and 200 lbs. I was standing next to a coworker when they told me and he started laughing because it seemed crazy in his mind. By the way I wear 32" jeans and if I don't wear a belt they would fall off.

In people's mind obese is huge, not slightly overweight. At 170 my rib cage shows prominently and people tell me I need to gain weight. Admittedly I feel better physically at that weight. I think they told me I should be at 150 which is crazy, I would have to lose a lot of muscle mass.

This is very true. Almost all of my family are over weight or obese. I was that way until recently. I lost about 45 lbs not too long ago. It’s was very difficult but I just came to the realization that I have to bust my arse in the gym and eat very healthy. My dads weight always fluctuated but now he has to eat extremely clean to maintain his weight and health. It’s just more difficult for some. For example, my wife doesn’t eat healthy and never gains an ounce. However, I wouldn’t consider her healthy, just skinny.

I’m the exact same way. I’m 6’0” 205lbs (recently down from 250). BMI charts say I should be 165 but I would look like a meth abuser. I go more off of body fat %. I’m about 12 percent body fat and 14-20 % is normal for guys

Just an observation. My last check up (just checked) my BMI was 26.15 (overweight but not obese). I really don't care to jump in a pool of water to measure displacement every time I go for a checkup just so I can find out that my BMI is actually 24.9 instead of 26.15. I could stand to lose a few but I don't really need a more accurate BMI calculation to know that. If these folks are so concerned, go to some professional trainer that has one of those air displacement boxes and get a more accurate reading.

Sad but true

Huge problem with far reaching implications...

Health was traded for convenience...

I'm surprised it's only 40%.....anyone who has been to a public pool or beach knows that number is WAY low.....

Not only has physical health been traded for convenience mental health has also...our culture is based on buying shite we don't need because it gives us some quick pleasure. Drive thorough a middle class neighborhood on a Saturday morning when folks have their garage doors open.....almost everyone of them is FULL of shite they no longer need or have room for....some is VERY expensive shite and most of it has been shipped across the globe where it was made at great expense to poor people and the environment.

We work god awful hours to garner this shite, sacrificing our health which we bolster with chemical compounds that beget the need for more chemical compounds. We hardly know our own families and we know that is wrong so we go overboard in compensation and insist that what time we spend with them is "quality" time, which we define as being pressured to meet a schedule with after school activities or doing things like hunting and fishing which requires all of the latest and greatest shite.

This is why there is so much angst in our society. We know deep down we don't need all of this shite but we don't know what to replace that void with. When was the last time you saw a man and his son cane pole fishing from the bank with a can of worms? Or simply sitting on the front porch talking? We don't have time for that because we need something on Amazon or at Walmart....which means we have to work more hours....

I don't have a fix but I know I'm not alone in this....all you need to do is take a look in the garage of the average American family to know something is amiss.....

Here is a perfect example, innocently issued, of what's wrong with our culture....a fairly comprehensive list of enjoyable things that excludes the most luxurious item we have in life.....TIME......other than the sleeping until noon item there is nothing on the list that doesn't require money which equates to TIME.

Time is the most important commodity we have because there is an individual limit on it....we can earn as much wealth as our ability, desire and fortune dictates,,,,,but we can't get an extra millisecond of time no matter what we do. We all like the old saying you can't take it with you but most of us never take the deeper meaning.....time is sweet and limited....

Part of this is learned behaviors. Try eliminating carbs, grains, and sugars as a lifestyle change and then get back to us.
