Wow you don't need to say much more than that to see what's going on. Trump could save a baby from a burning building and the media would be asking if it was trump who started to fire in the first place. Fake news.

"The sky is blue".

Mostly False

Most would agree that the sky is blue, and it inherently is. Some visual experts would disagree in the case of color blind people in further research.

Is Trump an idiot for believing that stat, or does he take you for an idiot? Which is it? You get to pick, but it has to be one or the other.

The stat is real. For you to deny it is to deny reality. Now the significance of the stat is questionable but to call the statement false is false. Thus is why the msm has discredited itself. Polifact is very fake news!

You do realize he operating off the budget from the Obama admin, right?

Also, this was covered yesterday. The stat is absolutely meaningless. Obama "reduced the debt by billionions" also many, many times by that metric. It's worthless.

For context...

quote:

First, it is true that the debt has probably ticked down but as noted by the Atlantic's David Frum, this is mostly due to the federal government rebalancing its intra-governmental holdings. Debt outstanding to the public has barely budged since Inauguration Day.

Additionally, the federal government is still operating under the budget passed before Trump came into office, so even if the overall debt decreased, his administration had little to do with it.

Finally, and most importantly, the economic circumstances during his and Obama's first month in office are vastly different and make the comparison totally off base.

When Obama took office in January 2009, the country was in the midst of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. The US economy lost 702,000 jobs in February 2009 and 832,000 in March 2009, GDP growth collapsed, and foreclosures soared. In response to this crisis, Obama did what presidents typically do during recessions: took on debt to stimulate the economy.

But if Trump knew it was insignificant, why was he whining about no one covering it in the media?

Again: is Trump a fool or does he take his supporters for fools?

You're missing the point. Politifact isnt supposed to be rating context.

To take a 100% trust statement but then rate it "mostly false" doesn't help their credibility.

Trump is accurate here. He just says the debt went down.

Yall arguing he's lying are merely showing your trump derangement syndrome.

Obama says more people have insurance now because of the aca. He never says it's because the government forces you to have insurance or it penalizes you.

Fair question.

Does it not apply equally to authors of Politifake as well?

Uhhh. Context is the whole point of fact checking.....To provide broader context for bull shite figures politicians come up with. You can almost always find a way that a number is technically correct from some tortured perspective.

The issue isn't that they provided context. It's that they gave it a mostly false rating based on context when the claim was literally and totally true. Rate it true and then caveat the shite out of it.

"You can keep your doctor!"

"Mostly True"

"The doctor you have seen previously may or may not be the one you will report to within further measures, but that Doctor has the same percentage of being the one you will report to as any other potential one in the future."
