yeah, probably. which is a pretty strong indictment on the state of the country.

I was alive during Reagan, so I will claim him as the best president I'll ever see.

I was in kindergarten when he left office. I don't know what my politics were back then, but I doubt I'd have been a fan of his attacks on the Second Amendment as that's not long after I got my first 10/22.

i dont agree with what he did either, but i woudlnt call it an attack on the second amendment. it was also a much different time, where politicians actually acted in good faith across the aisle. Reagan was a phenomenal president.

I would. He's a lifelong Democrat, responsible for a lot of the mess in California. He brought that garbage to national politics. There isn't a president in our lifetimes who's had a more lasting effect on our gun rights.

I generally like Reagan, but he gets too much praise and not enough criticism.

It's just history.

And I mean, it's not like Dubya was perfect on gun rights, either. His tepid support of renewing the AWB makes me sick.

He was a good potus. Fantastic by 21st century standards. But I don’t think there is any denying that nostalgia for the 80’s fuels a lot of the love Reagan gets.

He's certainly far better than the last three idiots we've had.

I agree with this...a certain amount of nostalgia definitely helps him. however, the other side of that coin is that the criticism he gets from modern conservatives is mostly due to him being measured up against modern conservative purity standards.

he did far, FAR more to further the cause of conservatism than he did to hurt it. plus he understood and hated the evils of communism probably more than any other significant figure in recent history, and for that he will always be a hero of mine.

Agreed.

Same can be said of Dubya, although maybe to a lesser extent.

I agree. Especially with regard to the Patriot Act. Looking back on it, wow - what a terrible idea that I cant imagine a conservative would push for. But it's so easy to take these things out of context...just a few months after he got sworn in, assholes started flying planes into buildings and killing Americans by the thousands. I think he was acting in good faith at the time, and he did what he did with the right intentions.
