No, I have a practical perspective. Look at statistics and at historical data. Paying tens of thousands of dollars to get a degree in a hobby is odd. If you want to dabble in history, take online free non-credit classes through Hillsdale, Oxford, whoever. Read tomes and tomes! Watch documentaries, travel to historical destinations, read the top 100 books of all time, etc.

There are many much cheaper ways to become a 'well-rounded person.' You are a very rare exception.

So, the liberal arts model should be killed according to you apparently. Despite the role that universities have had in Western Civilization, they should be replaced by solely technical and professional schools, huh?

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I even know this one................learn the "History" of "Global Poverty" as it relates to what, slavery maybe, and then the whole reparations thing to rant and rave about?

I highly favor a Classical education at all levels through high school. After that, it's time to get practical.

What jobs out there and in the future do you foresee requiring a degree in history?!
Ive always said if you get a degree, that only qualifies you teach others how to get that same degree—you fell for a ponzi scheme.

No offense, but it seems like your Masters was a waste too. I would think that your job could be done by just about any smartish person with just about any liberal arts degree.

You think so, huh?!?! How much do you know about grant management and accounting? Proposal writing? Collaborations with foreign research partners, recruiting and hiring foreign researchers, etc, etc?!?!

Think a 'smartish' grad with a degree in History could do that?!? Think again.

Generally, yes. Grant management and proposal writing? Typical corporate paper pushing. Oh sure, there's a "correct" way to write a proposal, but you learn that by doing. You didn't learn it from your Masters degree.

Your collaborations and hiring? Typical HR stuff.

My degree is Bachelor of Criminal Justice. The agency I worked for didn’t require anything specialized, just a sheepskin. I wish I had gotten a history degree, far more interesting than C.J.

My favorite classes were my History minor. Loved chatting it up with my FDR-loving history professor. Back when difference in politics was just a thing like difference in sports fandom.
