Why is it horrible?

I have a feeling the person who started this thread won't be on the cover of Entrepreneur anytime soon.

And you believe the "War on Terror" is really a "War on Terror"

You really shouldn't confuse capitalism with crony capitalism. When you have a gov't as large and powerful as the USA does, the incentive to lobby congress to pass laws slanting whatever situation arises in your favor is so incredibly ripe. Make gov't as small as possible and crony capitalism goes away. quote: massive inequality There are lots of things that will never be equal. quote: greed Greed is one of the biggest driving forces of innovation there is out there. It's good for the world. quote: corporatism, war, waste, pollution... I think its a great economic system. It rewards people who supply things that society wants and needs and does it more efficiently than any system ever devised by man.
In fact, it's one of the most moral systems on Earth. It rewards work ethic, the non-aggression principle, efficiency and helping your fellow man.
This is regurgitated programming.

It is, huh?
When you eat, did that food get there because some farmer and truck driver cared about you or because they cared about profits?

Yeah, cause people didn't eat before capitalism. And btw, your farmer is now a rather large corporation pumping your nutritionally lacking super-vegetables with copious amounts of chemicals. You're right, they most certainly care about profits.

You know corporations are government, not capitalist, creations, right?

People didn't eat NEARLY as well before capitalism. Hell, our "poor" are FAT. That has never happened in human history.
Another thing about capitalism...you can CHOOSE not to do business w/ those companies (in the sense that you don't have to buy their products off the shelves. We are forced to do business w/ them through govt guarantees and subsidies). Other companies supply foods which don't have those chemicals, right?

Just my opinion, but i think we"re splitting hairs here. The anti-regulation folks can"t write off every negative as an unintended consequence of government meddling while taking credit for the virtues of a system that doesn't exist.

It's not splitting hairs. Corporations don't exist without the government. It's a big distinction.

no, they did, but mostly because they and their kids would wake up before dawn and bust their arse on the farm or performing their trade to eat what they could afford.

So we should regulate the producing capacity of our farmers to help the nutrient depleted hungry kids and our ability to export grain/corn/whatever we produce?
If it was not about profits, the country would be unable to meet the needs for our ethanol demand, our hungry children and world hunger. Government regulations on farming would not help. The poor quality produce gives the FREE market a niche to create whole foods, fresh/farmers markets and higher quality food for those who care and can afford. I understand your propensity to have gov solve everything, but free market/capitalist solutions are the answer. While some bad exists in capitalism, it's usually from crony (government regulated) capitalism and greed which exists regardless of the system of economy in place.

Other companies do supply those foods. Unfortunately, doing things the right way isn't nearly as efficient as manufacturing a "perfect" tomato. My point is that working to achieve maximum profit doesn't mean you're working for the greater good. Typically, it's profit for profit's sake.
