More Than 40% of College Grads Are Underemployed

LINK

quote:

A new poll conducted by global management firm Accenture finds that 41% of U.S. workers who graduated from college in the last two years are underemployed and working in jobs that did not require a college degree.

Cue the sheep who say you only go to college to be educated not to prepare you to have a job.

This is, without question, the worst economic times I've seen in my lifetime. The thing is, all the other times you saw better times ahead. Now, you see worse.

A college degree is the new high school degree.

Grad school is the new college.

I only have $6k in student loans left. I pity the people who have $80k plus working jobs they could have had out of high school. I teach a GED class and it's hilarious to see these people looking at getting a GED as a ticket to high paying jobs.

Honestly, way too many people are getting degrees these days.

We need people that have tradeskills more than anything.

The poll also found that just 16% of college students who will graduate this year had already landed a job.

84% don't land a job out of college. Great numbers!

quote:

Worse, 32% of the 2011 and 2012 college graduates who are employed make $25,000 or less in annual salary.

That's about 1 year of tuition.

With the type new jobs our illustrious "job creators" have been creating for a decade or more, we seem to simply need more people who have no skills whatsoever.

Yep, it's sinking the value of the college degree. The more people get it, the more worthless it becomes.

Welcome to the new America. Crushing debt, and underemployment for all. Crumbling infrastructure, continuing missteps in world affairs and morally bankrupt.

People coming from oversees with imaginary degrees are diluting the playing field too.

They will have an advantage being bi-lingual too because more jobs will want to cater to those criminals.

Eh, this started way before Obama, this was coming.

1. Nobody agrees on what college should do- Most employers treat it as job training, which it isn't. So kids won't get the perfect job unless they get the perfect degree for that job, which, outside of medical and maybe law and hard sciences, is ridiculous.

2. Older generations not leaving their jobs

3. The myth of the American dream. Just like owning a house, everyone can own a degree.

Judging by this board half the college grads are semi-literate dolts who can't construct a complete sentence and spell like five year olds, e.g., people coming from oversees. I'd say water reaches its own level.
