Disruption of the free market? The publisher is under no obligation to publish anything. This has nothing to do with supply or demand. This isn't an economics discussion. It's simply a business decision on the part of the publisher.
If you want to make it an economics discussion: If the demand is high enough, market will work itself out and another publisher will pick up the book. If no one touches the book then that's the market's way of saying that the green wasn't worth the potential for negative pub.

Did Simon and Schuster have any real data to prove that people would not want his book anymore? Or did they bow before outrage from people who would've never bought the book ?

While I don't disagree with you that it's wrong, it doesn't change that fact that these sort of mutual arrangements are not unusual. When you start peeling back the layers of sexuality, you'll find that a lot of people are into what can be termed as pretty weird shite. The reaction of Joe Rogan in the video in question is of someone who doesn't have a frame of reference to what Milo is talking about. It's shocking and disturbing and you can tell the way Milo dances around it, that he knows it's something he shouldn't go deep into detail over. Pedophilia is disgusting behavior by itself, but going into detail about older gay men keeping and grooming very young, teenage boys would have been just as shocking because most people are unaware of the world around them.

I don't think sales (of this book) have much to do with his former publisher's decision- Milo pushed the limit too far he might have pissed off a cash cow fiction author or threatened the imprint's reputation.
