Technically, it's an Armored Division (1st AD) and a Cavalry Division (1st Cav).

I'm not talking Active Duty units. They have the 36th ID, Texas National Guard. Three full BCTs and a CAB I believe.

1. What is the mission of the war? Invading/conquering Mexico or preventing invasion?

2. Do they have access to assets? If so, what? TX NG, current military (Ft. Hood, etc.)

Texas has a lot of Nukes.

The Pantex Plant is the primary United States nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly facility that aims to maintain the safety, security and reliability of the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile. The facility is located on a 16,000 acre site northeast of Amarillo, in Carson County, Texas in the Panhandle of Texas.
Pretty sure that if Texas secedes that part of Texas will just become part of Arkansas. We aren't giving nukes to a rogue state.

100%.

Mexico would not dare make the effort. Next question.

1. Repel invasion only. Assume its a situation where immigration has reached a critical mass and has become a issue that Mexico feels it can push into a war.

2. In the scenario, Texas does not have the military soldiers of the US nor any military technology that the US has not sold them.

For the purposes of simplicity, lets say we have an arms deal with the Texas, but nothing else. They have to field their own soldiers.

Mexico doesn't even have any fighter air craft left in its air force...

No state will secede from the Union. Just cause a couple of crazies from California and Texas do it every so often it does not mean it will happen.

Oil money could buy enough equipment and mercenaries to stave off Mexico.

also we would always engage them in the mid-afternoon. gives us the element of surprise.

In that case Texas defeats Mexico without breaking a sweat.

Hmm...what I have learned in this thread is the public has very little knowledge of the size and capabilities of our National Guard forces.

Hell I didn't even bring Texas' Air Guard forces in to the picture.

ETA: Texas has an Air Guard Fighter and Airlift Wing as well. Mexico forces would be annihilated

Does Texas keep its nuclear weapons?

Only if the US decides to sell them off. I am going to say "No" since I doubt it would happen.

I will admit, the factors you all are bringing up make sense. It really would boil down to how sucessful secession from the US would be. Even if peaceful, I doubt they would get any nuclear arms.

Texas could defend itself better than any state in the Union. Probably do better in Afghanistan too.

Well first off in your what if theoretical you assume Texas to be alone.

It would be hard to believe that Texas could leave without others joining in. I would be shocked if Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma wouldn't join in. Other Gulf Coast states are probable.

Since both Louisiana and Texas have nuclear weapons based in them, I think Mexican relations would remain cordial!

I'm sure the monetary unit would be a dollar but not US Dollars. As such an energy producing and exporting power house, its economic footing should be secure.

Without these states (Texas alone for that matter) the GOP would be dead. However, red states would flee California tyranny and create new states or join up. Remember most of the nation is governed GOP and Trump won 30 states.

The growing national debt of the socialist utopia of California-New York would drive even more away!

#3 tisk tisk. Conservatives love them some lawful immigrants seeking to integrate into and make America better. We don't like those who crash the border and take what they want. One of my family's cars was totaled by an illegal alien without a license or insurance. Believe me, they effect more Americans than you wish to admit! Wonder where they go when expelled from this new Texas centered nation. Cali, NY, or to their native countries.

Oh, well. Too bad this only exists in your imagination.

Here's another what if. Suppose California seceded!
Could they fight off Mexico? Who cares?!
Would they use their own currency. Not for long. Their paper would be worthless before the ink dried!
What would this do to DNC? Dead man walking!
What about immigration. Open borders baby. Socialist utopia would not last a year before they started eating their young!

We've been down this road before. Offer people a slice of God's country and they will leave their homes and come lay down their lives for the Republic.

Invent any hypothetical you'd like. Texas is 1.5X Mexico. It is 1.5-fold the Mexican GDP. It is minimally 1.5X the Mexican military. There is no comparison.

Possible? Sure.

Trump would have beat Hillary 268 to 232 without Texas in 2016. With Texas he beat her 304 to 232.

After the fall of Texas we'd have to increase border security along the Sabine to keep away the Texicans seeking a better life for themselves in Louisiana.

State is rich we would have Cajun truck nuts and 601 club mercenaries fighting our war. Plus pay off the drug cartels to act as proxy terrorist.
