There is no black community. I cannot control black people across the country, nor do we speak for each other.

I worry about my own damn self and providing for my family. I give zero fricks if other black people act like fools.

We seem to not have these issues with black people in the suburbs. Lots of it boils down to socio-economics.

I guess it shouldn't surprise me, but the lack of empathy on this board is just astounding. God forbid one of you ever lose a child at the hands of a cop.

Clearly it is devastating to lose a child. But maybe just maybe if she raised him properly this would not have happened.

Incorrect.

I don't have any more in common with black people in Ferguson or other parts of the country than you do (assuming you're white) with random white people in Reno, Nevada.

I'm black and the actions of looters/rioters in Ferguson freaking Missouri don't speak for me, my extended family, or the majority of black people. That's not convenience, that's fact. Quit painting with a broad brush, or you're just as much of a race baiter as some people of color.

Truth.

I have never had to answer for the behavior of another white person. No one has asked me to speak to "my people" or "my community" or step up and lead them to be better. It's ridiculous.

Not really. If that were the rule, instead of the exception, of course.

Unfortunately...

The posters who want to group all blacks together and say fix your community are just like the race baiters or the people saying our black community.

The community I care about is where I lay my head. Regardless of the color of the residents.

wonder how many of these "protesters" semi-full time jobs are working for ACORN?

Sounds a little different than the "statement" I read from the family last night.

And how are you privy to the way she raised him? Plenty of people sitting in jail right now that had good upbringings, just as there are plenty of law abiding, productive members of society that had terrible parenting.

Her parenting, or lack thereof, has absolutely no bearing on how she is dealing with the loss of her son. It's a pain nobody should have to go through, and one I cannot imagine having not been through it.

They usually have some kind of issues that need to be diagnosed. No excuse for a normal person growing up in a normal productive environment to break the law.

People with sense who don't fall into the traps of what society expects them to be like b/c of where they are from.

Is why her son was running the streets
