Just a few-

- Social Security, Medicare, etc. has to exist in some form
- Increased tax revenues to government are a good thing
- The Federal government must be funded by income taxes
- We must have 9 justices on the Supreme Court
- We must have a minimum wage in the US
- US Senators must be elected by popular vote
- Government employees pay taxes to the branch of government they work for
- Public schools are not the same as 'government schools'
- Non-profit groups are more virtuous than for profit organizations
- Citizens shoudn't have access to the same weapons as police

I will update as more spring to mind.

ETA:

-Government should be in charge of security at airports

Why?

Everyone accepts this?

This is FAR from "accepted". In fact, funding via income taxes is kinda dumb.

quote:

We must have 9 justices on the Supreme Court
Not really.

quote:

We must have a minimum wage in the US
Actually, no, we mustn't. It's also dumb and hurts the people it claims to help.

quote:

US Senators must be elected by popular vote from now on
Actually, an awful idea.

quote:

Government employees pay taxes to the branch of government they work for
What does this even mean?

quote:

Public schools are not the same as 'government schools'
What does this even mean?

quote:

Non-profit groups are more virtuous than for profit organizations
Says who?

You seem to have confused "already here and we're living with it" with "accepting".

Do you need a dictionary?

I only like one of those but in an economic sense the minimum wage should reflect the real inflation rate of the country

Every idea was a "progressive" idea at some point. What I object to most is not certain "progressive" ideas, but Progressivism -- the belief that things must change for the sake of change.

I am a conservative. I believe if change is not necessary, it is necessary not to change.

It seems to me that the only people who accept the things in your list are self-avowed liberals, and I don't know of anyone on this board that accepts those things without knowing their socialist context.

So I'm at a loss to understand the point of your thread. It seemed interesting at first, but there was nothing in it to make one pause and wonder.

No offense, it looks good on you, though.

I don't think anyone on this board would agree with this.

That doesn't make sense, because what's good for one part of the country isn't necessarily good for another.

I wouldn't be opposed to a "living wage" that is based on the cost of living for each individual county/parish. I don't doubt that $7.25 isn't enough to make ends meet in New York City but no way in hell some tard working at McD's in Bunkie needs to make $15.

Why would a senator not be elected by popular vote?

Hate it. Terrible idea.

Not enough.

They also shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Yes they are.

Non-profit groups are more virtuous than for profit organizations
quote:

Citizens shoudn't have access to the same weapons as police
Yes they should.

How is that for accepting?

All of your ideas suck.

ok - I am confused by this one

as I understand it, FDR tried to stack the court and Congress set the 9 justice limit to prevent him from doing so - how is that a liberal idea that we have bought into?

Not exactly the same thing, but a bit of a side tangent:

If I see one more person whine about "why does so and so at this non-profit hospital make 3 million dollars?????" I'm going to lose my mind.

Both sides sometimes have good ideas. If they combined them & worked out the disagreements w/out pork, maybe we'd get better legislation.
