In the long run it's probably for the better. Lots of bad shite happens to spring breakers and the risks may be greater than the reward.

Will they start handing out pacifiers and diapers now? I'd hate for these infants to get hurt in spring break. Honestly, we need to make sure that people aren't responsible for making sound decisions. Bad stuff could happen.

I paid for every spring break trip I took.

i can understand why a large portion of the local population doesn't want their community to become a madhouse with drunk college kids each spring ...

Yeah me too. What does that have to do with the ban?

That's epic retardation.

Not only does everyone just go 20 minutes east to Orange Beach, but Alabama loses all that tourist revenue to Florida.

Does gov't have the power to influence tourism with a targeted ban during times when certain demographics visit, and do they owe anything to the local businesses who's policies it negatively effects?

did you see the heat Walk Ons took for its renovations during Essence Fest?

Imagine if the city were to do something similar.

since its white college kids nobody is thinking this through.

AL already loses to FL without the ban. I always drive to FL to buy booze when down on the coast.

Again, I could and I'm quite sure they could give a frick what they do. Just don't do it around me or on my property. I don't want the liability.

We go to OBA a few times a year but almost never during spring break.

IMO they need to change the drinking age to 18 and just enforce the laws. The kids pre-game and get so drunk that they get out of control.

This is really what it's about.

And, before the ban we had a "zero tolerance" policy.
Not one person could explain why that was not effective, other than "we didn't have the man power".

There was no medium or grey area discussed, no economic impact studies done. Nothing. It's elementary and short sighted governance at it's finest. And it's frustrating seeing all your clients and friends have a huge question mark on their financial plans this upcoming year.

Not one person on the council could answer how much should business owners that depend on SB tourism expect to be down this year.

The 21 year old drinking age is one of the stupidest things ever.

So who's responsible for cleaning up the beach that gets trashed? Maybe the business owners themselves should get out and do it.

Who told you we don't have volunteer groups out there?
Hell, even some colleges joined in the fight this year.
WE have a great program in place "Leave Only Footprints", and that educational program has worked wonders.

And exactly who the frick is "we"? Some bunch of entitled frat kids trying to make themselves look better? Reality says your "educational program" is bullshite. Worked wonders my arse.

i find it mildly funny that laws like this can be passed without much pushback.

close down a walk-on's during essence festival and all of a sudden you are a racist, though.

eta: damn you Mr. Perfect. i was too slow.

I support this. Unfortunately, this isn't what happened.
