Junkies don't pay taxes, most will not be working while in their throes of addiction, guess that leaves us to take care of a lot of people not wanting or able to work, oh well it's all part of becoming more "progressive".

I would be fine with that since the plant isn't even grown here.

watching so many heroin users throw away their lives. it's sad seeing what it does to them and their families and friends. and then seeing dope sickness. all you have to do to never want to do heroin is see and hear someone get dope sick. pretty horrible.

Never done heroin. Never wanted to. Three college buddies passed away from it, but never been my cup of tea.

I am just tried of the gross misappropriation of our monies towards fighting a losing battle.

And that link was to land rover seizures. I'm too dense to connect those dots.

Eh, not that I am against legalization, but I think we're approaching Peak Heroin, so to speak.

That transition in the Oxy and the other narcotics that reconstructed the time release happened three years ago. Most of those who would have transitioned already have by this point.

I actually wrote not long ago on this board about a trip I took through what has become a big heroin area in this country (southern Indiana, central and eastern Kentucky, southern Ohio). It has become bad in those areas, but I really do think the worst of it has already blasted through.

It should probably still be legalized BTW.

I'm sure you are intentionally being obtuse but to clarify...would you support this tactic for possession of heroin in the US?

Of course not. I'm all for people growing as much opium as they want.

I'm simply saying that while our gov't is punishing people for selling and becoming addicts, that we are protecting the same product overseas. It is sadly ironic, until you begin to examine govt policies with drugs, from the Iran Contra to Nixon and even back to Anslinger and marihuana prohibition.

You drag them kicking and screaming across the threshold of progress, just as we did with slavery, voting rights, interracial marriage, civil rights and currently gay marriage among others.

I'd say your premise is wrong

If progressive means being in support of FREEDOM, then sign me up. I don't use drugs but freedom to choose what I/we want to do is important to me.

1. Heroin use will spike due to the fact that pharmaceutical narcotics (oxy & roxy) are now mandated to be reformulated chemically so you can no longer get high from snorting it.

Same thing as far as I'm concerned. My best friend from high school turned into an oxy junkie when he could get oxy and a heroin junkie when he could get heroine. He dropped out of college after 1 year, eventually finished a decade later, then dropped out of law school after two years. Then he miraculously got into a PhD program and dropped out of that after one semester. The entire time he was doing junk of one form or another, racking up tens of thousands in debt of all kinds. He literally pissed away three lifetimes worth of opportunities. In the process his wife and three children left him.

He also fricked me on rent and lied his arse off the entire time he lived under my roof and I haven't spoken to him since.

THIS.

My moron ex-bf from hs is going to do the shite either way. Making it available to him legally cuts down greatly on the harm it does. His wife wouldn't have had to refinance their home (the idiot said 'hey, its no problem. the payments are the same)

Awesome, but a poll of 821 Americans does not equate to national policy changes. It's a good omen, though

As long as its in the privacy of your home I don't give a damn. The only exception is if it results in criminal child neglect or abuse- but if a child is being criminally neglected or abused, the state needs to get involved regardless of the cause.

Also its reasonable to forbid people from setting up meth labs in apartment complexes or in buildings that are closely spaced to other buildings without proper permits, etc. If its out in the country where no one will get hurt but you when you blow up - go for it dude. 'merica!
