John Kelly brings truth to the table for all to see.. more deaths than 12 years of Vietnam

-It’s the highest number of drug-related deaths our country has ever seen. It’s more deaths than the peak of the AIDS epidemic in 1995
-In a single year, we’ve lost nearly as many Americans to drug overdose as we lost in battle in World War I.
-Almost as many as was lost in 12 years in Vietnam.
-That number—as high as it is—says nothing about the long-term health damage to our citizens who survive
-the extremes of crime and violence inherent in the illegal-drug enterprise.
-The damage TCOs do is not only violence and potential terror. It is also vast tonnages of marijuana and hard drugs—cocaine, heroin, counterfeit opiates, fentanyl, and meth amphetamines—they smuggle across our borders to feed both the recreational and addictive U.S. drug demand.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary John Kelly has largely blamed Latin American drug cartels for the unprecedented 52,000-plus drug overdose deaths in America during 2015 alone
But locks up an exponential more number of users than cartel members.
Wierd. Why punish the victims, if he truly believes what he says?

So your saying the current course of enforcement and lack of education and rehabilitation isnt working

We should mount a military type struggle against drugs, maybe like a war on drugs or something.

So...more war on drugs?
I think we should have an opt out society...
Pick a couple states and open them for a free-for-all...no laws, no government
Kansas is probably a good choice

That is a crazy amount. Didn't think it was anywhere near that big of a number.
Drugs can come in with impunity. For every backpack of weed or meth they catch, 10+ come in undetected. Hopefully that has been curtailed with DJT Admin.

3 months in is going to right the ship after 8 years of turning it to this point?
Get real.

What's even more weird is the fact that you think locking up is more punishment than death...

It's not weird at all. We can only control what we can control. We have zero control over the supply, unless you wish us to invade Mexico and other nations to take down cartel members. We can however control the demand by placing those who use drugs into jail .
Of course when we DO get a supplier, he goes to jail to , or she.

I'm saying 8 years of moving us to this point has to be reversed.

i think the issue is that the policy of putting them in prison doesn't divert them from the path leading towards death

What exactly occurred in the past 8 years that led us to the current numbers..

Hmmm, rampant prescribing of opiates that hooks millions;
then take opiates away...

If we would go full Duterte in the war on drugs it would actually accomplish something. Enough of this grab assing.

I the war on drugs, drugs won. Time to rethink our approach

What is your level of sympathy for someone who dies of cancer from cigarettes or liver failure from alcohol, compared to someone who dies of drug overdose?
I have no sympathy for either.
I have no sympathy for either.
