I'm in the construction industry. We're normally a pretty good indicator of what's going on with the economy/job market.

I had a guaranteed 40 hour week when he inherited this "Republican disaster".

Two weeks ago my boss cut me down to 32 hrs/wk (20% pay cut) because there's not enough work.

If Obama saves me any more from this "Republican disaster" I might end up laid off all together.

Stock market is at record highs! Woo hoo!! That's great there are some people sitting on a ton of cash but they sure don't seem to be spending it on long term capital outlays. I wonder why?

I agree the job market at a macro level isn't that good but construction jobs has actually been a bright spot in the last year

LINK

According to the BLS, construction jobs are up 3.4% in the last year, which is pretty good growth compared to overal employment which is up about 1.5% in the same time period.

No.

Work has been slow for a long time, my boss just couldn't keep eating the hours that I wasn't billable any more.

So your boss was eating losses from the Republican disaster for years yet you blame Obama because you just took a cut in hours 2 weeks ago. Bottom Line: The economy is improving. Whether by Obama or just on its own. But you don't think its improving fast enough. Do you see those charts up above? Do you think that Obama or any president could improve the economy at a faster rate than the economic boom of the 1990's? Do you think the economy should have rebounded above numbers that were artificially propped up by asset schemes at some of the world's top banks?

I've always liked this saying.

But seriously people, 9 downvotes?

More commentary appears needed in the OP.

LOL, "construction jobs" = illegals.

How, exactly, does that help American citizens?

No. My personal work load noticably lessened about a year ago, maybe more. It's great that the economy is improving. Stock market is at record highs. Now that my Friday's are wide open I can sit on my porch and watch buildings literally spring up from the ground.

From DeltaDocs thread

quote:

A definition of being off-message is when a politician says things to people that differs from what they observe for themselves. Happy talk about the economy doesn’t fool anybody; it makes them angry. According to a George Washington University Battleground poll released today, 54 percent of voters disapprove of the job President Obama is doing on the economy. Even more telling, an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll from August showed that 49 percent of Americans still think we are in a recession. In that same poll, 76 percent said that they do not feel confident “that life for our children’s generation will be better than it has been for us.” The truth is, in many ways Americans are worse off today than they were before the recession. Sentier Research released a report showing that median household income is down 4.8 percent from December 2007, when the recession began, and down 3.1 percent from the end of the recession in June 2009. The last time I checked, having less money is not an indication that you are better off.

Ahh, another racist liberal (TT9) who makes fun of regional dialects (Bush speaking like a Texan), yet completely ignores his half-white hero not knowing how to pronounce "corpsman."

I have no idea how anyone can defend Obama or Bush?

So, what's the point of this thread? Is this actually the "summer of recovery" because that was suppose to happen like 3 years ago.

You sure? No one remembers him at Columbia. We don't know for sure if he ever went to college.

What will be the new talking point to call "Obama's" economic policies a disaster?

Not a talking point but a comment: your post only shows volume not quality of jobs, nor does it show if it is structural or temporary improvement. Judging from past performance it is likely temporary until proven otherwise.

Wage increases appear to be on the horizon next so probably a good idea to be prepared with the talking point after that one next.

Hell of an assumption you have there. Seriously doubtful.

Face it dude you are an accountant, not an economist.
