A convicted murderer sentenced to life in prison for the 1988 slaying of a father of two during a botched robbery in Baton Rouge walked out of prison just before Christmas after the governor commuted his sentence, making him eligible for parole.

David Martin Bacon, 53, had spent 27 years behind bars after an East Baton Rouge Parish jury convicted him of second-degree murder in the slaying of Leroy Thomas outside of Thomas' home in the Monticello subdivision on June 28, 1988.

]

quote:

Bacon, who was 24 years old at the time of the killing, admitted during his 1989 trial to firing a blast from a sawed-off shotgun at Thomas after Bacon's stepfather, Barney Ray Guy, was wounded while trying to rob the family with a rifle. Bacon claimed he'd only fired after seeing his wounded stepfather and didn't intend to kill Thomas.

Bacon, Guy and a third co-conspirator named Jerry Williamson hatched their scheme to rob Thomas — a 34-year-old Exxon refinery worker and the father of two — after confusing Thomas' white Oldsmobile with a similar car driven by a reputed cocaine dealer, according to trial testimony and court documents. They plotted the robbery after spotting the car while driving home from watching a heavyweight boxing match, according to information presented at trial.

Outside of Obama and Hillary, I'm not sure I've ever despised a politician more.

I said this just the other day. I absolutely HATE and despise, with my whole being, the obamas and shitlarys. With that being said, that edwards crook is just about on the same level, in my book. They're extremely smug and believe it's cute to be that way.

Criminals like those three believe that the residents of this state and America do not know what's best for them so they just do what suits their crooked agenda.
There's a place in hell reserved for each of them to rot.
harry reid is another one that's blatant with his thievery and crookedness and will be in hell with those other crooks.
What makes all of this either very disturbingly sad, or comical, is that their are actual humans that will defend those criminals and not think twice about it. A democrat in a nutshell!

No, the only thing fair for an admitted and convicted murderer is to be brought out back, a 9mm pressed behind his ear and pull a swift pull of the trigger. He doesn't deserve to suck in my air, yet less live for 28+ years.

Monticello subdivision was a decent working class neighborhood back in the early 80's. I guess this is part of the reason it changed.

Gov. John Bel Edwards commuted Bacon's life without parole sentence to a 99-year prison term in October based on a unanimous recommendation from the Louisiana Pardon-Parole Board, favorable reviews from prison staff and Bacon's 15 years of work as a prison trusty, s

Sentence was converted to parole at the recommendation of the parole board. A little less nefarious than JBE simply deciding to let a killer go home. At least the murderer will be on parole.

But any non-violent and drug possession inmates, esp marijuana related, should be first in line for parole.

What's your beef with JBE?

I know you hate Hollywood being here but I've never seen someone post so exclusively about a member of the LA government. Goodness.

You obviously missed the years of Jindal posts I made BUT my post are far from exclusively about JBE.

JBE just does so many things contrary to good government and conservative principles that on almost any given day you can find criticism of him from a conservative, good government, fiscally responsible point of view.

His old democrat crony ways are revolting to me and should be to every citizen.

I don't hate Hollywood being here. I hate politicians giving Hollywood our money to be here. Unlike almost every other incentive in the Louisiana tax code JBE, Jindal, KBB and Dardenne have decided to actually give the film makers taxpayer money. Almost every other incentive in our code is simply a return of taxes the taxpayer generated. Film makers get actual cash subsidies.

Any politician--particularly governors--that call for spending cuts or increased taxes and attempts to scare the public about lost services while giving the out of state Hollywood film makers tax payers is a dishonest POS.

That's why the governor has to approve it, so it's not in the power of a board of beurocrats.

There are probably thousands of people in prison deserving of freedom. A murderer where the facts are not in question is not one of them.
