It's OK to be openly gay.....unless you're running as a Republican. Then, NO.

One false attack drew the attention of the San Diego Ethics Commission. An anonymous left-wing group funded a SuperPac and sent mailers of DeMaio Photoshopped next to a drag queen to neighborhoods with a majority of elderly and African-American voters, knowing that such a photo would depress support for DeMaio.

That was so egregious and false that the group was fined by the city’s Ethics Commission, but even after that, and with his 100 percent voting record with the LGBT community, the Left still didn’t speak up to defend him. They told DeMaio, “It’s complicated.”

If republicans had done this photoshop it would be everywhere.

If a Republican group did this to a democrat the Donald Sterling story would be dead and buried and this story would lead off all the news outlets of the day, followed by the democrat leadership calling on all GOP politicians to denounce it.

It’s understandable to me that a president wants to protect an incumbent and that DeMaio winning in San Diego worries the Democrats more than other races. As DeMaio says, “They could stomach losing the Democratic freshman's seat to a fire breathing stereotypical Republican - but an openly gay man? That would upend their world.”

The question is how will he spin it as the religious right's fault.

This is no shocker. Most of the mainstream left doesn't actually give a shite about minorities, gays, poor people- they just want to appear more cosmopolitan and educated than Republicans.

Gay organizations don't support gays. They support liberalism.

Women's organizations don't support women. They support liberalism.

Black organizations don't support blacks. They support liberalism.

Go for it. But try to remember that everyone who is supportive of gay marriage is not necessarily a liberal democrat.

tbf, politics is no holds barred.

The thing is, as you guys have said, the news media and the raving looney left would have demanded a blood sacrifice had this been reversed.

Could this guy have done this himself to help his own election and get out ahead of the story ? I am just saying, in politics you never know.

Now he might get some sympathy votes, and if he makes it to the general election he might pick up some democratic votes.

Have not read up on this so I am in the dark, but politics is hell.

The article refers to his attacker as "an anonymous left wing group." Then it says that "the Left" says his situation is complicated.

I don't doubt the possibility of dirty, hypocritical politics here, but the article is shoddy journalism that slides around specific facts.

How about naming names Fox News?

I'm on my phone but I can't find any other sources for the accusations in this article. Or any specific names.
