Any ex military guys or people who dealt with the Afghanis have a good idea of what the people are like over there and what to do about that shite show?

I would really value your input because I (and most of the board) don't know nearly as much about the region as you guys.

To me it seems like the only way for us to get out without having a shite show is to have a powerful country arise in the Middle East who is neutral or pro American so they can compete with Iran and Saudi Arabia and take care of these terrorists. Another option I think would be for a world power like china or Russia to piss off the arabs so we won't have to worry about them when we pull out, but that seems unlikely. In my opinion if the above doesn't work out we should get the UN to supply as many or more troops and assets as us into the ME so we can cut back on the military presence there, if they don't cooperate then cut back on money going to the UN countries. Like I said I don't know much about the area and next to nothing about how to deal with those people, how would you guys with ME experience handle this?

My best friend is an SF medic who has done three tours over there. He told me several years ago that no matter how many of them we kill, after we leave nothing will have changed.

Afghanis

Cave men with cell phones, their preferred sexual partner is a little boy (women are just for having children), we had a Taliban "commander" who turned down parole from the detention facility because he liked the food and he was about to graduate second grade (he was 30)

Probably not. That region is a war torn shite hole if I've ever seen one. I could see us propping up our homeland defenses big time and increasing unmanned aircraft and naval presence in the region if we want to insure a more stable pull out.

Afghani is a monetary value

Afghan is what you would call people that live in Afghanistan

They are all fricking cavemen and nothing will change once we leave no matter what we accomplish there

I have no idea what Trump wants out of this Afghan adventure that he is about to embark upon.

Any sort of victory would have to involve Pakistan, but Pakistan would be fine with the Taliban taking back total control.

Culturally, Afghanistan isn't Middle East or Arab.

The biggest problem we've always had in Afghanistan (and Iraq), at least at my level, is that they are nearly all lazy people. They have no desire to fight for themselves, particularly because they know we've been doing it for them for nearly 16 years. There are some really good people there, and some bad arse dudes that can keep up with the best of us, but they are few and it's not enough. If we want to "win" there, it's on us.

How do we do that? I don't know. The only right answer might be to leave and let them sort their shite out on their own. I hope Mattis can figure something out. He's a smart dude and a warrior. If anyone can do it, he can.

They're the laziest, dumbest people on the planet. You can't change or fix a country and it's people when they are simply content on living in the stone ages.

We had an Afghani police chief who was put in power by us because his predecessor simply packed his shite and high tailed it out of country in fear for his life. A few months later the same police chief we helped put in power tied an 8 year old boy to a wooden pole and raped him repeatedly for several days. The Afghan "national police" and many Afghan army regulars we were around were always stoned off their asses so all they did was fill sandbags.

Any time you have an extremely poor and uneducated population ruled by complete crooks, it's a recipe for disaster.

Have you watched the Vice documentary "This is what winning looks like"? It's almost what you described verbatim. Even had the ANA guys smoking weed and opium trying to fill sandbags

I feel like if we get the cavemen to change their aggression towards anyone else then we can pull out at any moment. If we could trust that they wouldn't do anything terrrorist wise then I think we would have no excuse not to pull out, just need to change their aggression imo.

They're not going to fight and die for a cause they don't believe in.

As for the government, they're all kleptocrats.

It's a shitshow. Changing the ROE will be huge.

I once had the "pleasure" of speaking to a Taliban village leader after we accosted him. I specifically wanted to question why he and his buddies stripped a brand new Cummings generator we set up for the village. His response: Muhammad didn't have a generator. I literally almost pissed myself laughing in his face and reminded him that Muhammad didn't have a damn cell phone either.

That is just one of thousands of oxymorons that are applicable to Afghanistan.

Obviously. Most of them won't fight and die for a cause they do believe in.

You basically have a nomadic culture that has seen war for centuries. The US is just the latest side show over there.

Sure they will.

They just don't see the war the way we do.

No, they won't.

"Them" is still our allies, to be clear. The ones that will fight are, for the most part, fighting us.
