Edit:

Cokebottle posted an article today and made an assertion that was factually incorrect, and he would have realized this if he'd done any actual checking.

But he didn't. Please see below for a rogue's gallery of people pointing this out and laughing at him, as he richly deserves.

Let's all take this as a life lesson.

That's because Obama was intentionally trying to do economic harm to Our Country.

Wouldn't hurricanes increase GDP in the long run? Increased government spending?

We had several 3% quarters during the last admin, though we never had a 3% year. We aren’t on track for one this year either.

Obama never had an annual 3% growth. He had some quarters that reached that level though

How do people not understand the difference between quarterly data and yearly data?

We had 3% or greater GDP growth in 8 of Obama's 32 quarters, and even had one above 5%.

And we aren't on pace for 3% growth for 2017. So how has Trump accomplished something in 1 year what Obama couldn't in 8?

Trump hasn't had annual 3% growth either unless he's somehow managed to travel at a significant fraction of the speed of light and thereby dilate 8 months of time into a year

Looks like the Atlanta Feds last prediction was off.

quote:

but the momentum probably slowed in the third quarter as Hurricanes Harvey and Irma temporarily curbed activity.

In the same thread above I said this:

quote:

How does a prediction go from 4% to 2.2% in a month?

Two hurricanes in very populated areas of the nation.

And I received these responses:

90proofprofessional
quote:

they only impacted a third of the quarter, and it's not like they came close to wiping out all activity nationwide even during the period they impacted

not remotely possible they account for a drop by nearly half from 4%

good effort though!

cahoots
quote:

Oh please. Two hurricanes aren't going to cut growth in half. Especially when government recovery spending on the order of $15 billion (and then some) is a component of GDP. There were weaknesses elsewhere before the storms hit.

buckeye_vol
quote:

Florida and Texas account for 14% of the nation's GDP. And those Hurricanes didn't shut down the entire areas impacted let alone the entire states. And those Hurricanes occured 2/3rds of the way through the quarter.

In other words, whatever impact it had, it would be only a small percentage.

And the only one to agree with me:

deltaland
quote:

This. Hell 25% of the nations refining capacity has to shut down for a couple weeks. There is a large trickle effect from these things.. For example our catfish processing plant we sell fish to had to slow way down because the company that makes their packaging boxes had to shut down due to Irma.

These disasters have wide reaching effects

The GDP is what the OP was referring to, I believe. Not the pace.
