Houston and Harris County are poised to decriminalize low-level possession of marijuana in a sweeping move that puts the area at the forefront of efforts in Texas to halt minor drug arrests that clog jails and courts.
District Attorney Kim Ogg is set to announce the new policy Thursday with Mayor Sylvester Turner, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo and Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
The new policy, set to begin March 1, means that misdemeanor offenders with less than four ounces of marijuana will not be arrested, ticketed or required to appear in court if they agree to take a four-hour drug education class, officials said.
"You do not get charged with anything," Assistant District Attorney David Mitcham, who heads the DA's trial bureau, said Wednesday.

Reaction to the proposal was swift, Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon sharply criticized the proposal, saying Ogg was trying to legalize marijuana.
"Unlike Harris County, Montgomery County will not become a sanctuary for dope smokers," Ligon said in a press release. "I swore an oath to follow the law – all the laws, as written by the Texas Legislature. I don't get to pick and choose which laws I enforce."

New Orleans sort of did this last year as well, although the law is slightly different.

It's relatively harmless in most instances. Although I know a few daily smokers who are extremely lethargic.

The loss of revenue is a serious threat to any organization.

So let's subsidize their room and board by locking them up.
It's the only solution.

I do, however, see the benefit in decriminalization.

In my experiences with the doobie brothers, their sanctuary is any place the cops aren't. I have never known any dope smoker that looked for safe places to smoke their weed except around the police.

Considering your own massive insecurity about your masculinity, and constant attention whoring only rivaled by certain LLOTOT, I really think you're looking at life's totem pole upside down.
Money, family, and friends should be at the top.
Lonely, desperate, and insecure is the bottom.
You really need some self reflection...in all seriousness.

I think most states have this type of penalty for low level possession, especially on first offense. We have it here in NC.. But keep reading, if they find a pipe or other paraphernalia with that little bit of weed, you get in deep crap.

I know many people who smoke on a weekend basis, like playing golf on Saturdays. They all probably make more money than you at their positions.
They don't seem to be worthless wastes of life.

Can we just legalize weed at the federal level? It will solve crime problems, save money, and bring in revenue. It's win-win-win.
Several states have already done it. What other experiments do people want?

If you're 22 years old, not in school, working at Sonic, and smoking weed or wax almost every day, you're a worthless piece of shite and that's all you're ever going to be.

I don't see how any person of integrity and character would dispute this position.
We must respect the Rule of Law.
Now ... if you don't like the law(s) ... then change them.
Now following the Rule of Law has gotten us into all sorts of messes. (ahem ... border ... immigration ...)
