How much will they spend before they realize (notice I didn't say "admit") this was a bad idea?

Does he even mention what service jobs have been lost to automation in Hawaii?

An extra self-checkout lane at the grocery store opens - "all work is automagically done now and there are no jobs"

Indeed. For example, Indians were perfectly happy burning innocent women alive on the funeral pyres of their dead husbands (the practice of sati) until those pesky barbaric Europeans came in and ruined everything.

A guaranteed basic income should be the LAW OF THE LAND, as it is, as well as healthcare, and education, a fundamental RIGHT of all Americans.

and why stop at the border? doesn't everyone have these rights? not just U S citizens?

everyone should have everything all the time

You have a hyper service economy. About 20% of state GDP is tourism. So you're incentivizing people working off the books and collecting their living wage

This is exactly what is happening in Puerto Rico in a close fashion. The island has very high unemployemnt and disabling debt. All the free shite they get from the US encourages most to work for cash and keep getting their free stuff. This coming from multiple busy owners who are my customers. Quality, not highly skilled labor, but skilled nonetheless, such as loader operators, forklift drivers, truck drivers are very hard to find if not paying cash. Can't have momma loosing her free stuff.

Dude, do you even realize what life was like for the average native American? Nearly 100% of their time was devoted to simply gathering resources to survive, and by survive, I mean barely getting enough food intake. There was no leisure, no technology, no advancements.

And for the average Hawaiian, or Mayan or many others, if the leader decided he needed to sacrifice your daughter to the Gods so he could achieve some victory, you can bet that wasn't a total daughter.

bullshite.

The entire world doesn't require smart phones to live a happy and productive life.

Most people do just fine with all that technology bullshite that Madison avenue says you must have.

Shaking my damn head at you.

This is why people commonly refer to Sub Saharan Africa as the 'happiest place on Earth'

LOL, how much of Hawaii's service economy could be automated? Robots playing the uke? Robots hula dancing? Robots cleaning my hotel room?

Yeah...Andrew Jackson certainly help them reach their full potential.

This is a losing topic for you. Native populations ended up FAR worse off everywhere Europeans showed up.

It's funny.

If national media existed in hundreds of years ago, there would be worldwide condemnation of King Kamehameha. But, instead, they hold parades in his name. It's hilarious.

The Incas? The Mayans? Yeah. They were "great" civilizations.........if you weren't one of the plebes.

And that's before you talk about conquest and enslaving their neighbors.

No. I don't say this to pretend Europeans showing up were awesome. But, the whole idea that everyone was holding hands and singing Kumbaya and Europeans fricked it up is just absolute Hollywood fantasy.

Also they were environmentalists nightmares. Mayans had the population density of LA county. And they clear cut every forest in sight. They weren't "one with nature" or any of that shite.
