Gas tax holiday would be a political disaster

I think the politicians know this too.
I seriously doubt most consumers realize the Feds take almost 19 cents a gallon at the pump. Once they see and feel it, it won't end well. It will be even worse if the states agree to do the same. I think the Gubmint wants to keep this information quiet.
It may also stimulate "some demand" which will have an impact on pricing too.

Unless…..they know prices are going to keep going up, then they suspend the tax, and the increase in prices go above what it was before the suspension….and then they start blaming “greedy businesses” and use that as an excuse to come after oil companies…..

An income tax withholding holiday would be better. Folks legitimately don't know how much money they actually make, and would be mad as hell if they brought their actual amount paid home for a month.

Oh don’t you worry, that $.19 ain’t going away, it’s only getting shuffled around. It’ll be moved from gas to something else. You’ll see.

If you would have bought an electric vehicle like Pete suggested, we wouldn't be in this predicament.

The problem is they will have to reimplement it and doing it then will add 20 cents onto current price with it continuing to increase by doing nothing to increase supply.

Desperate people do desperate things. I can't wait to see the shite they'll try when September and October roll around close to election time. I always say you can't polish a turd.

Plus think about if we took that extra money and sent it to Ukraine.

It would be great if employers didnt have to withhold taxes. If people had to send that money in every month or quarter I bet they would vote in different people.
Never see it = no problem.

they could have ended the gas tax at any point in the past 12 months, had they? no.
This is just a ploy to try to win the Nov elections, my guess is we will see gas cards and a new pandemic.

Love your sarcasm. Can you imagine going outside to start the car Pete told you to buy when it is not charged due to an electrical grid being unable to provide power? Better yet, getting your electric bill only to realize the electricity cost is higher than the gasoline cost.
Yes, what this country needs is just one form of energy providing all of the power we need to run things!!

Student loan moratorium extension inbound too.

19 cents isn't going to put a dent in $6.00 gasoline which is what we are headed to. It's pointless. We know what the lone solution is but this administration isn't going to do it they are dug in at this point.

Yeah it will be even worse when the gas prices continue to increase exponentially over the next 3 months, and then the tax is reinstated. FJB

Will they use the lack of taxes collected as an excuse to why interstates and bridges remain in disrepair?

Maybe some, or most, folks.
I know exactly how much the federal government rapes me for every paycheck, because I look at every single pay stub to make sure no new frickery is happening.
What most people legitimately don't realize, and would be infuriated about, is that federal income tax is technically unconstitutional and illegal. But since most of us have been conditioned for our entire lives to accept it and have always paid taxes to the fed, it has become the norm.
It shouldn't have ever been this way.

I don’t know how it’s written on every pump how much per gallon
