This is fillibuster in name only in that its a refusal to vote for cloture for an up/down vote. There are no floor speeches in this fillibuster.

Can they not force a real filibuster?

I guess I'm confused. The Dems can just do whatever the hell they want?

sn't there a way they can do it without nuking them? Not that I'm opposed to it. Something about limiting the number times a senator can speak in a day and not declaring the legislative day over and then just letting them talk their two turns then the filibuster is well... over. Or something like that.

I have almost no faith in the turtle yet he is 100% going to nuke. He's already made public statements saying Gorsuch will be on the court one way or the other and without the sleazy arse dems finding Gorsuch's pubic hair on a coke can he is SCOTUS bound

The Dems want to force the nuclear option. They know they will probably never get 60 dems in the senate AND control of the whitehouse when there is an open seat on the Supreme Court so going nuclear now allows them to seat an extremely liberal judge with only the whitehouse and 51 in the senate. They are conceding Gorsuch now in order to get Sotomayer on steroids later on.

Wouldn't matter. If GOP doesn't use the Nuclear Option now, the Dems will just use it next time they are in power like they did in 2013 for the lower courts.

I'm not sure about the mechanics of all of this....but I would prefer the GOP allow them to filibuster for s few days....put it on the news night after night to show how obstructionist they are being, and give the impression of trying to work through this...then use the nuke. Who knows? maybe they get tired of trying a filibuster and we get it done without the nuke. Then later you pull it out if needed. I don't think you want to start using the nuclear option every time you want to confirm someone. Just my opinion.

I so hope Ginsberg bites the dust soon and Trump replaces her with a southern white conservative judge...maybe Sessions..

So why exactly did McConnell change his vote to "nay"?

This is what I suspect McConnell will do.

Don't know the exact reason - but it has to do with some rule that allows him to recall the issue - Reid did it a lot of the time.

This is the only language the liberals understand. You have to put them over your knee and spank them like obstinate little children.

So does the postponement vote open the door for the nuke?

This is a very bad day for democracy as we know it, if in fact the Republican majority proceed with the nuclear option. The filibuster rule was installed specifically for the purpose of preventing the tyranny of the majority. For the Republicans to barrel ahead, and confirm a right wing Supreme Court justice with less than a supermajority of senators, well, that's tyranny.

Fortunately, I hold out hope that McConnell will come to his senses and not go through with the dreaded nuclear option.

So you also disagree with Reid for using it?

Was it a bad day for democracy when the dems did it?
