Federal judges can be impeached/removed for "abuse of power"

The process of what is colloquially known as impeachment contains two steps.
The first step, the one that is technically the impeachment, is taken by the House of Representatives. By a simple majority, the House can vote to impeach a federal official. This process is akin to an indictment in an ordinary criminal proceeding. Then, once the official is impeached, the Senate holds a trial to determine if the official should be convicted, in which case the official is removed from office. The Senate, however, needs a two-thirds majority to convict.
Only 15 federal judges have ever been impeached and only eight have ever been convicted and removed (most recently, Judge Thomas Porteous of Louisiana in 2010). But even then, the “articles of impeachment,” the list of misconduct the accused is on trial for, have described quite a wide range of inappropriate behavior.
Maybe it's time......

Legally the judge made the right decision.
I like trolling Libs and Muslims as much as the next guy but the ban was stupid and it's a testament to the robustness and effectiveness of our institutions that it was overturned.
ETA: I should say that is was enjoined. It hasn't been overturned yet, oh but it will be.

Tell us more about how the judge made "legally" the right decision.

Your screen name still sucks....

Wow, Russian. Always considered you an a-hole, but I never took you for a fool. This is a Bengal-level post right here.

I know. It is my cross to bear.

Yikes. Obviously you haven't read the order.

hey perry mason, have you actually read the damn law?....the president has the right to do this by proclamation....this judge exceeded his authority and needs to be impeached....what trump did was completely constitutional....

Telling Donny to sit down and shut up is not abuse of power. It's just doing his job.

A previous poster posted an older article showing that the 9th circuit court was overturned at a greater than 75% ratio. So the chances of him being right are slim.

Watch and see what happens.

You actually think we could get 67 Senators?
Wasting time on crap like this would be stupidity by the HR.
Hey, I'm not saying I agree with the judge. What I'm saying is that the idea of impeaching him is stupidity...for the very reason you cited. So why even post a thread suggesting it?

The judge isn't the Ninth. The judge's decision is reviewed by the Ninth which is then reviewed by the SCOTUS

I don't like impeaching judges for decisions that we disagree with. An independent judiciary is a key part of our government. The risk of rogue district judges are why we have appeals courts, and rogue appeals courts, the supreme court. Traditionally, effective impeachment has been reserved for unethical activity, like the former Judge Porteous. If nothing else, at least let the case run through the entire court system before impeachment even enters the discussion.
