so this is going to sound cold, and it makes me really sad that this kid died b.c his parents were evil pieces of shite.

But there is a bit of darwinism at work here. If you are too stupid to know to remove your kid from a hot car, then maybe we don't need you in the gene pool.

I think the good samaritan law that every state has would hold someone harmless for breaking a car window to save the life of a child.

I would do it immediately, frick even calling the cops until after (they'll probably come faster if you tell them you just threw a brick in a car window). It would be no problem - in New Orleans there's always a brick or something like it within a couple arms' reach.

That's a really fricked up thing to say, especially given how these children die. There aren't many worse ways to go about it.

k

Though I have considered the possibility of how I could possibly leave the kid in the car through no fault of my own - in particular, what if I get wiped out by another car on the way from the walking from passenger side to the driver side, and the cops/bystanders don't realize I have a kid in the car? I'm thus extremely careful when I do this.

Shockingly, I agree with this.

I'm not sure why this article is breathtaking, or how it proves that CNN is shite

What could the government possibly do to prevent hot car deaths? I mean: aren't we pretty much trying to prevent all deaths by the time we get to the "death by hot car" discussion?

Agreed. And parents make a thousand mistakes throughout their child's lives that could end in death. Being a parent, the loss of the child is really the biggest and only punishment we should see in these cases unless it was intentional carelessness.

yeah that's a great reason to neglect asking the question whether anything can be done to help prevent this from happening to anymore children

Allowing people to break windows would be a big one.

The rest of the article is discussing various views. It ends with a guy talking about personal responsibility and not wanting government more involved.

With the "internet of things" phase, we could attach health monitors to kids that would send an alert. This could help in many cases: SIDS, drowning in neighbors pool, death by hot car...

Absolutely. But it's a discussion among people, not government. CNN implying that the gov needs to come rescue us from our stupidity is the part I object to and I think that's where you're coming from.

Well, you didn't leave the child in the car in that instance, you dolt.

I guess I'm thinking of people that go to work or to the store or what have you and forget you have your child in the back seat. I've got three kids, and not once did I ever forget they were back there. Few times on vacations I wish I would have thought they were back there when they weren't, but that's a different story.

Now.. I did see some lady on CNN the other night... said she always made it a point to put her purse or her phone in the back seat next to her baby.. that way, it would be nigh impossible for her to leave the child in the car. Something like that just seems like common sense, to me, anyways.

I can see that as an option for people to buy, but not for the government to implement.

To be clear: I'm not FOR child death. I'm against ridiculous articles full of "truthiness"

As someone said before...the good Samaritan laws on the books currently make this kinda de facto in place already.
