Rep. Simone Champagne from Jeanerette
Rep. John Schroder from Covington.

And while he and I have butted heads on issues and disagreed several times, Sen. Blade Morrish from Lake Charles.

But that's it.

As a default, I've become so negative towards the whole system that I don't respect or trust any elected official from the State Legislature position on up unless they provide a reason to. The above three have done that, numerous times each.

Warren J. 'Puggy' Moity. "If Ole Pug is elected he will not give you any vaseline...but instead he will give you many jars of alum."

This state has the worst collective of politicians in this country and it's not even close.

None of them are worth a shite. I long for the day where Louisiana is governed like Colorado or New Hampshire.

Goodness gracious some of you people need to meet more politicians. How many of you have met more than 3 and talked to them at length? How many committees have y'all set in on? How many times have you watched the session down at the capitol? I bet not many.

Keep forming your opinions on a person's character from your local news outlets and remain mad and bitter.

There is a reason for that. La. has a long history of devaluing the need for formal education. In the 1800s the jobs involved farming, hunting, trapping, and fishing. None of these jobs required more than a 3rd grade education.

In the 1900s construction, oil and gas moved into play. That required a 5th grade education.

Politicians realized that the average La. voter was distrustful (even frightened) by someone who went to college. So, the politicians learned to 'talk stupid.'

I know several of them personally. They told me that they learned to sound moronic to appeal to the dumb masses.

Raises hand.

When Max Jordan was in HS he spoke like a Shakespearean actor. When he won a state legislative seat he talked like a farmer who just fell off the hay wagon.

Cliff Aucoin was a speech professor who had perfect diction. When he ran for Mayor of New Iberia he took "How to talk stupid" lessons from Suzanne Whitaker to win the race.

When Edwin Edwards was interviewed on national network TV he lost his Cajun accent. Within the borders of La. he had the accent.

John Kennedy talks like a friggin' moron from a Lil' Abner play yet he graduated from an Ivy League college. I doubt if he spoke that way to his professors.

People in La. whine about Bobby Jindal talking too fast. To me, he's slow as molasses in January. If you want to see the average La. voter, go spend an hour at the DMV.

Hand raised. Spent time conversing with quite a few. Even the 4th Floor.

It's made me more cynical towards the process, to be honest.

Hand raised--in more than one state too.

Usually met them when they approach me for money.

I know several pretty well.

Do I respect them?? There are very few I respect--most of them are local. There are some real sleaze bags on the local level too.

I think the best way to clean up the state is to make the state representative and state senator jobs unpaid. That would dramatically and drastically change how the state does business.

Oh I think we should have at least one layer of the judiciary appointed instead of elected too.

I don't think we have any worse politicians than other states like Mississippi.

Telling isn't it that 29 responses have been made to the OT and not a single one mentioned Jindal, Landrieu or Vitter as one respected.

Do you know that many of them lose a TON of money being away from their jobs to represent the people in their districts?
If you're a person where time is money, such as attorneys, then your entire practice takes a hit while you're away making bread crumbs while in Baton Rouge.

So? There are more than a few that this is the only visible employment.

Take away their pay and those sessions will go much faster and will be much easier on taxpayers.

So take away their income for 1/4 of the year, make them pay for traveling from all ends of the state, rooms or apts here, food, etc and deny the fact that the ones that are not employed outside the legislature are usually vets or older people that are retired.

Thanks man. Says a lot about you and I'll keep that in mind when I see your posts.

Only about $15000 plus some stipend and expenses. They get some reimbursement for an office and some perks.

I think New Hampshire pays theirs $100.

Don't you think there would be a significant change in the quality of representatives if they all did it for free? Only the ones that could afford to do it would run.

Or is it your belief if we paid them a million dollars a year or something we would have better reps??

Maybe we could pay their travel expenses to Baton Rouge and put them up in a dorm at Southern.

If the ones that ran could afford to stop working for 1/4 of the year then you would be left with only the rich in office which would lead to the exact type of politician in which you despise.
