I respect Jindal although I wish he would have done more to cut state government.

Louisiana politicians are a direct reflection of the people in this state – which is to say Louisianans accept corruption because they believe that's what it takes to get their interests advanced. Business in this state is as dirty as the politics.

Several, but even that several only represents a small handful of the legislature.

This thread is right there at the heart of why I love Louisiana.

I was born and raised in NOLA, that gives one a great insight into political corruption and abuse of police power.

Come on...what about your buddy Bobby?

I respect Murt Smiley, Ascension Parish's Assessor. He used to be a used car dealer who sold us a bunch of my family's cars, two of which we still drive. He also used to be our state rep, but he left the legislature to serve as assessor. I assumed it was a backwards move, but he just completely revolutionized the assessor's office with a new satellite and web based system that will save taxpayers thousands of man hours (both by citizens and employees) and potentially millions of dollars down the road. Great guy.
I also respect the hell out of Kip Holdin. I don't like his politics, but he's a great guy who loves his job, cares about Louisiana, and is a phenomenal promoter of his city and state. He would make a perfect Lt. Governor.
I also respect Mike Foster above almost anyone.
I respect Vitter in that he really doesn't give a f*&k about anyone but himself and is completely honest about who he is...a political scumbag

So here is a more comprehensive list. To get on it, you need to be both competent/intelligent and trying to do the right thing (in the politician's own mind, not mine).
Jindal-though he has fallen a lot recently with the common core action, I still think he as done a lot for the state.
Dardenne- good guy
Mike Strain- turned around a bad situation at Ag.
Bill Cassidy- another good, competent guy
Legislature
Sen Conrad Appel
Page Cortez
Jack Donahue
Karen Carter Peterson- really disagree with most of her positions, but I respect her
Neil Riser- should have been elected a congressmen. I guess you get what you deserve.
Mike Walsworth
House
Chris Broadwater
Simone Champagne
Pat Connick
John Bel Edwards - again, disagree with his positions, but I think he is an honest (well as far as a politician can be) intelligent guy.
Kevin Pearson
Joel Robideaux
Jeff Thompson- though lately he has been shifting his approach
Local
Randy Roach Mayor of Lake Charles
Barney Arceneaux of Gonzales
Jimmy Durbin of Denham Springs
Ronnie Harris of Gretna
This is not a comprehensive list. There might be good people that I just don't know a lot about.

La. has a well deserved reputation as being politically corrupt, but if you think it is the worst of the worst, you know nothing bout the politics in Illinois & New Jersey just to name 2 other rotten states. Chicago in particlar is rotten to the core & has been going back to Prohibition days. New Jersy is all mobbed up & has been going back to the Roaring 20's of last century. There may well be some "good guys" out there, but the first time one accepts a trip out of the country to look for "state business", paid for by one lobbyist or another, he/she is on the way to being corrupted by the system. And just how many have left state or Federal govt poorer than when they entered? None.

That's such an ignorant thing to say. So a person can be genuine and want to help make their community a better place as a private citizen but the minute he gets elected he becomes a self-serving waste of space?
Yes

I respect and like John Flemming from my district. Smart guy and I believe he has a good voting history representing his district. I think he has our best interest in mind while he is in DC.

It is because of the process to getting elected. The only way to get reelected is to continually "serve" one's self in a variety of ways. Helping one's district to get reelected is self-serving because they only doing so to further their career. Voting a certain way on an issue near and dear to a special interests' agenda to ensure more money will be donated to their reelection campaign chest is also self-serving.
It is the nature of politics.

Yeah, Pearson's another one I've come to respect.
Strain...just don't know enough about him. But like I've said, my previous dealings with Legislators and Executive branch minions as soured greatly my views.
In fact, I automatically now don't respect them until some sort of personal interaction forces me to change my opinion. More times than not, unfortunately, I've come away more disappointed.
Guess that's a me problem, but I.B. was asking...

Was my 2nd choice to win the 5th Cong., after Clyde Holloway.
Which reminds me, I forgot to list Clyde in my initial response. Definitely respect him.

I'm good friends with his son. He's a standup guy.

Met him several times at events around Shreveport and he has always been great to listen to. Being a doc and a business owner has its advantages to trying to get out of the shite show we are currently in. Obviously being a doc and business owner puts a bullseye on your back from the left.
