Why do they have to fake it? You don't have to pray to a God. There are other forms of praying.

They are definitely discriminating based on religion.
Again, I'm a Republican, and usually hate these things, but I can definitely see the argument. Anyone who can't see it just doesn't want to see it.
I still think its stupid, PROBABLY wouldn't hold up in court, and not the kind of thing that atheists should be doing.

Therefore a Christian pays less than their food because of their religious beliefs.
Actually in the provided example its the atheist who would pay less.

bingo.
But this is the warped view of the militant atheists. They are so out of touch, so lost in some weird semantics game, that they hurt atheists everywhere with their stupidity.

Atheists do not pray in any way. They are not capable of praying because they have no one to pray too.
Forcing them to do something against their closely held beliefs to get an advantage that others get is discrimination.
At least that's the way they would argue it.
Again, I'm playing devil's advocate here. As a lawyer, I can see the argument.

Yeah I screwed up my wording there.

I was taking specifically about these types of cases
for whatever reason the law seems more lax about "girls night" or senior discounts. It probably wouldn't hold up In a court, but it's never really enforced. or at least that I know of

I see no problem with this
How is that any different than businesses offering discounts to police and firefighters in uniform???
Posted on 8/7/14 at 3:49 pm to Gladius Veritas
There are court cases that have found "Girls Nights" to be discriminatory.
Actually, I agree there.
But what guy wants to bring that argument? They should be shot on sight.

you dont have to pray to a deity, you do know that right?
frick man, you dont have to even pray, you can just observe a moment of silence for you and your guests and the millions going hungry that night.

If atheists were being charged more than menu price due to their lack of belief, you'd have a point.
How is that different than the theists are all being charged less than the menu price while atheists are being charged the higher menu price? The menu price is meaningless as a basis for your argument.
quote:
But as somebody else stated, this is like a coupon. You can't say it's discrimination if you have to pay full price but I don't because I happen to have a coupon.
It absolutely is not like a "coupon". It is a belief you either hold or don't hold. Of course atheists could not give a shite and fake pray.
quote:
Nobody's rights are being denied here. I repeat, a discount is not a right.
So I can give a white-discount and because I call it a discount it's not discrimination?
Look this is a silly thing for atheists to get their panties wadded about but the arguments put forth that this isn't discriminatory are ludicrous.
The argument should be that pvt business owners should have the right to discriminate as the restaurant owner did in this instance.

This is unfortunate. The diner probably couldn't afford to fight a lawsuit so bully tactics won the day.
Hooray freedom!
Hooray freedom!

I am sure plenty of religious folks gamed this system by just lowering their head and doing nothing.
I doubt every person of faith prayed in order to get this discount.

You know, the bottom line here (as it is in virtually all of these "discrimination" cases) is simply this: if you don't like the policies of an establishment, then you have the freedom not to do trade with them. Freedom of association, it's a very simple concept.
BUT...some people just HAVE to make their little statements, so...

pray verb \'pra\
: to speak to God especially in order to give thanks or to ask for something
: to hope or wish very much for something to happen
: to seriously ask (someone) to do something
So, an atheist can't hope or wish for something to happen? They can't seriously ask themselves to do something?
Anyone can pray.

This isn't happening, unless it is against an Atheists beliefs to wish for something.

Not really.

You aren't seeing the argument, as you for some reason can't see why religious or not, you can pray.

I guess the 10% church bulletin discount is next.
Just seems like good business sense to try to attract the church crowd in this country.
Being opposed to things like this is a huge negative to any sort of "atheist" movement. These things do their movement more harm than good.
