Leaving off the anti Assad rebels?

They're the real enemy here.

The bombing was a message to Assad to behave because Trump really doesn't want to end up like Bush and Obama did removing dictators that brings stability and order to his country.

Just a month or so ago, Assad was fixing to try something again and Trump and Mattis saber rattled a shite ton and Assad piped down.

Pretty sure it's based on what he has been told by advisors and not just speaking out of line. Based on what many experts have said is we are very, very close to having to make a move

Not you in particular but reading twitter and posts from other progs on here are basically celebrating that kim Jong is calling a bluff.
It's like people are literally cheering against anything the man does even if that means cheering on North Korea. If you are going to act like that isn't happening then we will agree to disagree.

I haven't been paying much attention today so I don't know what's going on on Twitter.

Seems like the rhetoric has been ratcheted up and we're likely closer to *kinetic action than we've been in a long time. That's a scary thought. Just trying to play catch up here.

what's your take on what he did here?

He did exactly what Obama did. He drew a red line.

We may get to see if there is a difference from that point on.

It seems crazy to me that NK would push this to the point where any action by them gets them literally wiped off the map. I don't see the strategy other than pure hubris.

^^^this. for months now diplomacy, trying to get China to cut off NKs oil supply. we were successful in a missile launch off the West Coast to avert any incoming; and Guam is protected in the same way. but no one wants it to come to this. because stopping whatever NK sends is a band aid to a festering boil.

I'd imagine (hope) there is some serious backchannel discussion going on with the chinese. I did see that the Chinese navy shot off a bunch of missiles off the Korean Peninsula today. Most definitely a message to us but I've gotta think they've told Kim they're growing tired of his bullshite. Does he have the balls to defy the only patron he's ever known? If need be, can Trump give him room to deescalate and save face domestically (with appropriate concessions to us regarding missile tests)?

Must hurt you to know your guy said something he would do something if Fat Kim threatened us again...only to have Fat Kim double down on the threats and Donald to do nothing.

Red line crossed.

Or as this board likes to call it, Donald pulled an Obama.

Amazing that libs are now defending north fricking Korea in order to score cheap political points against trump.

I haven't seen a single person defend North Korea here.

In fact every single one I have seen is interested if Donald will actually cash that check he signed earlier today.

Most people are pulling for the President on North Korea. What do they want people to say when he threatens war if we get threatened again? Obama had over 60% disaproval when he made that Red Line threat and couldn't make good on his promise. Trump has to keep a cool head and not let the pressure get the best of him.

Yes, but you'll find varying interpretations of what he meant by "threat." Considering his words immediately following the initial statement were "he (KJU) has been very threatening, beyond a normal statement (or normal state)..." a reasonable interpretation is he didn't mean the usual rhetoric and saber rattling KJU engages in.

To be fair, there is a difference between NK's vague saber rattling and a specific, achievable target announced with a date.
