Most definitely a message to us but I've gotta think they've told Kim they're growing tired of his bullshite.
Im still not convinced that China would ever do anything to put NK back in its cage. North Korea's existence, and all the problems that come along with that, don't really hurt China in any significant way. A stronger unified Korean Peninsula does though. I think China is betting that we'll back down and let Kim have his nukes thus weakening our position and influence in the entire region, which is what China really wants and what is really the bigger issue at play here. China's best course of action is to let this play out from the sidelines and jump in when it best suits them. Possibly by siding with the North Koreans in a shooting war or, more likely, asserting military and economic control over the South and East China Seas while we're distracted with the much less important Korea problem.

He literally said what I put in quotes. Literally.

quote:

do it again

What is "it," literally? Based on what he literally said, it would be threats beyond their usual stuff.

You're arguing against words that came from his mouth you can look up for yourself.

I think we are very close to some action but Trump made his statement about fire and brimstone whatevs and the NK propaganda said their daily- we will kill you and eat you like pigs crap they say every day. They also threaten to take out (name the place) daily. So, no one can sit here and say Trump is doing wrong because he didn't nuke them a half an hour ago. Trump listens to his military advisors, he doesn't enlist some kid in a basement with an Obama adoring picture up-- to form strategy and send helos of cash and gold to Iran.

That's the other funny thing about this. In their interpretation, because we didn't nuke them the second they said they would kill us all, Trump balked.

They must have literally thought his threat was attached to some auto trigger that was pulled the moment NK said something.

That's the million dollar question... Does China back NK militarily if we strike?

I don't think they do, but I also don't feel confident enough in that to test that theory.

I think we should offer to let them annex the territory as long as Kim and the regime are gone. I'd be ok with that compromise.

That would be damn near unacceptable to South Korea and possibly Japan as well but would they even have any choice in the matter?

I think a better offer to China would be for the U.S. to withdraw from the Korean Peninsula. Of course that would have to be conditional on China squashing Lil Kim and letting North and South Korea unite as a neutral country.

Probably not. I think they use the situation to tell the region what a destabilizing effect we have had on the region and use that to strengthen their influence and power over the South and East China Seas.

I doubt China would think that's a very good deal.

The alternative is we decapitste the regime on our terms and allow the refugee crisis to flow over their borders.

Maybe they'd like to get some control over the situation

Not necessarily. Ppl were shitting on Trump and saying that Trump was backing down from his red line in Syria for 3 days while the military was getting ready to strike Syria. Just because he didn't order a full blown nuclear war 90seconds after NK made their statement doesn't mean he backed down.

Just catching up... did he threaten the fire and fury if they simply made another threat??

Why wouldn't you look this up for yourself?

@real: "North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen... he has been very threatening beyond a normal state. They will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before."

Kim crossed that line a few hours later. What now?

Don't even ask, they're making shite up. Or they have some of the worst critical thinking skills on earth. Not wanting to attack before someone else does isn't "defending" anyone, it's a perfectly logical position, as is preemptive striking. Earlier a thread was made that CNN had been taking NK side which of course they hadn't AT ALL. I don't even see what could have been taken out of context.

Well it is true

just like when liberals were rooting against the US in the Iraq War

not surprising since they elect presidents who hate the US
