Yeah, I used the wrong word. He didn't get fired. Did that really change anything about the conversation?

Yes it does. Being fired implies impropriety or breaking of agreed upon terms. Basically the fault is on the egregious party. However, that didn't happen. The show was either not renewed or cancelled, ergo, the actor or actors did not break any contractual terms and leave the show on good terms. You stated

"if the firing was political"

Implying that A) Allen was fired and B) that the firing isn't up to debate, only the reasoning behind it. So yes, using the wrong word matters.

Words are hard.

I like it. I didn't find it as funny as Silicon Valley or something like that, but it was a good throwback to mid to late 90's style sitcoms for me, personally.

Back in the day, CBS dropped "Hee Haw", "Petticoat Junction", and a few other shows because they felt the highly-rated shows had the wrong demographics (rural and older). Networks make these decisions, for good or ill.
Remember NBC running the Juanita Broderick story/interview, then refusing to allow any rerun or reuse?

I honestly didn't mean anything more than "If the cancellation was political". This has been an argument in semantics. Congratulations. You win!

Oh i'm not doubting this happens. I'm also not doubting that politics don't play a factor either. Either way, it doesn't really matter. Allen will find work elsewhere.

Literally the only sitcom on television from a conservative viewpoint. Of course it was cancelled.

It's being replaced by a show where all Republicans are rounded up and placed in concentrations camps, before being gassed in ovens.

ABC envisions it as a sitcom.

Definitely political

It's been a strong show in every market I have worked in and I work in the industry

Yet they bring back garbage programs that do not do well

Sounds as if you think it's being true to a political agenda.

The ratings aren't very high. They moved it from Tuesday (a popular TV time slot) to Friday (an unpopular spot). I would guess ad revenue is less because of that too.

including 6.4 million overall same-day viewers.
And has been on a decline. And Tim Allen makes a large salary ($250,000 per episode) for a sitcom with average ratings. The two leads on Blackish make $180,000 combined, and his contract has been an issue for years.

Apparently it is very successful in syndication though, so given the ratings decline, salary costs, and a successful syndication deal, it seems like a very reasonable decision.

Just like Kelsey Grammer, right? Boss was cancelled despite really good reviews, and the show wasn't even slanted. Only Grammer was outspoken on politics.
The show was canceled because ratings were poor and dropping significantly.

In an attempt to garner more television viewers, Starz shifted the season two premiere date from October 21, 2012 to August 17, 2012. This placed the season two premiere in a more advantageous state; between the finales of most summer shows on cable and the traditional launch of the fall television season, where an October launch would have been buried with many other programs.

The season two premiere had 317,000 viewers, which was less than half of the 659,000 viewers who watched the series premiere.

It was already moved to Friday night. I'm sure paying Tim Allen was getting expensive.

I really like the show, but think it has ran its course.

130 episodes,

Ratings dropped to half

Allen too expensive

Moved to Friday

Show had a good run but wasn't worth it anymore.

Yeah. And most shows don't make it that long. So given the ratings drop, mediocre ratings with the target demographic (12th on ABC alone), salary costs, and it's longer than usual run, it's ridiculous to default to politics.

It's one of only a few shows on broadcast whose conservative characters aren't retarded loons.
