Deputy Attorney General: "Mueller can investigate any crime he finds"

Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein said Sunday that the expanding investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election is continuing apace, even as President Trump dismissed the probe as “a total fabrication.”
Rosenstein said special counsel Robert S. Mueller III can investigate any crimes that he might discover within the scope of his probe, but the deputy attorney general would not discuss which individuals are the subject of their inquiry. The interview comes days after Trump said he believes it would be inappropriate for Mueller to dig into Trump family finances.
“The special counsel is subject to the rules and regulations of the Department of Justice, and we don’t engage in fishing expeditions,” Rosenstein said when asked about the probe in an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”
Trump and his inner circle have repeatedly dismissed the investigation amid frequent reports that Mueller and his team are digging into broader details on the financial dealings of members of Trump’s campaign team. Senior White House counselor Kellyanne Conway called the probe a “fabrication” in an interview on ABC’s “This Week.” Trump called it “the totally made-up Russia story” in a campaign-style speech he delivered Thursday in West Virginia.

Independent counsels should have an expiration date and shouldn't be allowed to expand the probe beyond the original investigation. Too much room for abuse of power.

So what crime are they investigating again?

There is something fundamentally wrong with this. This was started for "MUH RUSSIANS"....but now it's about what ever they can find to over throw the POTUS because the deep state is deeply offended by our POTUS

I see that you buried the lead.
What I took away from that is "this is not a fishing expedition" he will be required to stay within the scope of the investigation, and if not, he has to get permission from Rosenstein to expand it beyond it's original parameters.

If you had put limits on Kenneth Starr, then his multi- year, multi- million dollar investigation of Whitewater, could not have cornered Clinton into lying about a blow job and then given us the clownshow of a failed impeachment. Everything is on the table boys, let the clownshow begin!

Your title doesn't reflect your post

I don't see what's taking Mueller so long. This isn't like an undercover sting operation that takes months of planning and execution. You have all the resources available. Stop milking this and if you have something, do your job. If not, GTFO.

In an interview with Fox News Sunday, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Russia's role in the 2016 campaign and President Donald Trump's campaign's potential ties to Russia was "not a fishing expedition."
"If he finds evidence of a crime that is within the scope of what Director Mueller and I have agreed is the appropriate scope of this investigation, then he can," Rosenstein said. "If it's something outside that scope he needs to come to the acting attorney general, at this time me, for permission to expand his investigation."
The deputy attorney general also pointed out that special counsel Kenneth Starr needed permission to expand his investigation during his probe into former President Bill Clinton's handling of a land deal.
Seems like Rod is saying he has to stay within the scope.

Let's be honest about what's happening here. This really isn't about Russia. This is about Trump's finances.
Their goal is to impeach Trump. They will investigate anything they need to in order to make it happen.

Exactly. That should be Exhibit A.
I've seen this movie and I have no interest in a sequel.

Who is Rosenstein? I thought the media and the anti-Trumpers forced this Special Counsel? Weird

Ron Browns ended in a plane crash.
