I'm not sure about the feds, but State Agricultural Department has commissioned officers that investigate crimes dealing with agriculture (theft of livestock, crops, and/or equipment).

They have full arrest power.

I'm guessing the feds have the same.

Nice. They want all the cool features they would like to keep us from having.

This image is a Park Police officer during the Navy Yard shooting. Park police really need to be kitted up like they are going to Afghanistan.

Citizens visiting parks and monuments can get unruly and may need to be "policed"

We really should have a Department for that kind of work.

When I think Dept. of Agric I get this picture in my brain:

Do we really want Mr. Kimball to have a weapon?

You can tell some here do not get it, a sub machine gun that is 40cal. It's not an AR.

It does not matter if its an AR, sub machine gun or a mounted 50 cal. Its the Dept. of Agriculture, why would they need more than a side arm and a shotgun. If they need heavy firepower they can call upon the FBI or BATF to assist. This militarized policing is getting out of hand.

I understand why they want one in .40 because that is their standard pistol round but most subs are made in 9mm. These weapons will be way more expensive than your average MP-5.

They are requesting them for Special Agents/Criminal Investigators that work within the Dept. of Agriculture. Lots of bad guys carry rifles so why would you want to send agents in lacking in firepower? Those sub machine guns will not be carried around with them every day they will be locked up and secured unless needed for an extreme circumstance. Some of you really need to remove the tin foil hats.
