Theres something different about the way he handled this, its not really up for debate I guess

He stopped Castile because there was a robbery of a convenience store about 2 miles away. That would explain the officers jumpiness.

Have you ever seen a video of a very similar situation?

I haven't.

When an officer is dealing with someone with a gun, yes. Police officers want to live, too, and they can't take chances with people who have firearms and are not complying with orders.

How often does someone shoot a cop after saying I'm legally carrying and have a CC permit?

Well, when the cops tell you to stop going for a gun, you don't leave them much choice.

Didn't they say he was going for his wallet which had his CC permit....

And the officer continually tells him to not reach for said gun?

Good question...

I dunno about this one. He probably did not "break" the law. But, he damn sure doesn't need to be a police officer.

From the article I read, he stopped because there was a robbery 2 miles away, but told Castile it was because his tail lights were out. It didn't really say that was why he was quick to draw, or anything, but I can't imagine why else he was so jumpy. Just bad news all the way around. Everybody loses in this situation...some more than others.

He does not say "I'm legally carrying". Nor does he say he has a CC permit.

The video is in the thread.

I mean jimbo and ned kept saying 'its coming right for us' to justify something too. I'm just saying ive reached for my license plenty of times and the cop didnt gaf. I dont really care how many times the cop says what, my personal experience with police has been much more pleasant and way different right off the bat.

Um... this is a question for anyone still arguing this was a bad decision by the officer.

Do you know the correct gun handling procedures as a citizen if you are in a traffic stop?

I really hope WeakSafety can answer this

My feelings exactly. You odn't announce then pull a weapon, typically.

However, he actually was not carrying legally. he got his carry permit based on a lie, and he had been smoking marijuana moments before the stop, which, apparently, makes him carrying illegal.

The cop clearly told him not to reach several times and he did anyway. I wonder if Castile was not understanding everything clearly because he was high?

Have you ever continued to do something when the cop told you 2-3 times to stop doing it, and your experiences were still pleasant?

The girlfriend said that was what he was doing. I didn't hear it on the dashcam footage, or don't remember hearing it. However, the officer did say 2-3 times fro him not to reach, and he did anyway.

-Officer had no intention of harming Castille.

-Castille had no intention of harming officer.

Castille mentions he has a firearm while casually reaching for something, likely ID.
Officer: "don't pull it out then"
Castille: "I'm reaching for... "
Officer: "don't pull it out"
Castille: "I'm, I'm not"

Shots fired

So it seems IMO: Castille was still reaching for something, trying to communicate [stuttered] it wasn't the firearm he had just mentioned, to a panicked officer.
Very unfortunate, but in that situation you put your hands up and let the officer retrieve the firearm. Such a little thing that Castille didn't even really think about but it was all the officer could think about in that moment

He did not need to die and it's terrible he did, but officers need to maintain the ability to defend themselves. There was no way to know in that split moment exactly what he was reaching for. Sucks all around

How can any reasonably minded person disagree with any of this? While tragic, this is exactly what happened.

No, but he does say "I have a firearm on me..."
I did not hear him say anything about a permit, but they were talking over each other, so it is possible he did.

He was just pointing out that PC did not say what the poster stated that he said. He was exaggerating the point for some reason.

None of this matters. Once he told the officer he was in possession of a firearm, he should place the hands on the steering wheel at 10 and 2 and await instruction from the officer, until the firearm was cleared and the officer felt comfortable to proceed. If he really had a CC permit, his dumbass had been taught that.
