Not all Standing Rock support protest

quote:

The Standing Rock Sioux call this reservation home, and many are not on the frontlines of this months-long, and at times violent, protest. With no end in sight, what does it mean to them? And are they even united in their support?
The answer to that last question: Not even close.

quote:

"It irks me. People are here from all over the world," he says. "If they could come from other planets, I think they would."
The presence of all these people has become a downright nuisance to his community, he says. Given the roadblocks, residents of Cannon Ball are often forced to go more than 40 miles out of their way.

quote:

Just look at a recent vote in the community for further proof that Fool Bear's not the only naysayer. When protest organizers presented a request to build a new winter camp in Cannon Ball earlier this month, his community shot it down.
Of the 88 people who voted, he says 66 were against the camp, less than 10 were for it and the rest remained undecided.

Whites trashing protest camp

quote:

“Need to get something off my chest that I witnessed and found very disturbing in my brief time there that I believe many others have started to speak up about as well. White people colonizing the camps,” Alicia Smith said in a Facebook post.

“They are coming in, taking food, clothing etc and occupying space without any desire to participate in camp maintenance and without respect of tribal protocols,” she wrote. “These people are treating it like it is Burning Man or The Rainbow Gathering and I even witnessed several wandering in and out of camps comparing it to those festivals.”

Her Nov. 14 post, now making the rounds on social media, said outsiders are “literally subsisting entirely off the generosity of native people (AND YOUR DONATIONS if you have been donating) who are fighting to protect their water just because they can.”

A local deputy who asked to remain anonymous told WDAY AM’s Rob Port that most of the protesters are white, and that some have used racial slurs against black, Hispanic and American Indian officers.

Insane "environmentalists" who have no clue how this affects the local people hijacking a cause for their own benefit...

White man pretends to know whats better for the natives than they do.

I hope none of them use gas to heat their homes or to cook with. That includes you.

I'll grant you the situation is less cut and dried than either side pretends it to be. That said, the poliboard was willing to cut the Bundy's a lot more slack than they are the DAPL protestors. That was my point.

If you don't have a coherent argument, default to the personal insults.

Who is the poli board?

I support both of their interests. However, the protesters no longer support the interest of the tribe.

I can't wait until Trump makes the new pathway right fricking through the heart of the reservation

He can start defunding the Bureau of Indians Affairs.

When we stop giving them $3 Billion a year, they will consider leasing their lands for rights of way.

They already allow casinos.

quote:

The federal government runs a large array of programs for the roughly 1 million American Indians who live on reservations. Many of the programs are housed within the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). These two agencies have about 9,000 employees and spend $2.9 billion annually.

Donald Trump has said he endorses the Dakota Access Pipeline, although this decision won’t be easy for him to overturn when he enters the White House in January. “If one agency makes detailed fact findings about how a project is not in the public interest, the next administration can’t just come in and rip it up right away,” explained Jan Hasselman, an attorney at Earthjustice who is representing the Standing Rock Sioux in their federal lawsuit against the pipeline. “They could seek to undo it, but it would be subject to judicial review.”

The Donald has a pen and a phone.

Sucks when that shoe is on the other foot, doesn't it?

The initial negotiations were about money. I think the tribe wanted far more than the pipeline was willing to pay, so the rerouted it so it wouldn't be on tribal land. That's the real issue.

Don't think they Bundy's were stopping a construction project, so it's a wee bit different.
I'm not defending the Bundy's.

How would you like it if they tried to put a pipeline through your ancestors grave site?

Entire cemeteries are being moved all the time to make room for new roads and developments. Like it or not, it's a reality that not everyone has the luxury of protesting. Any remains can be respectfully moved elsewhere, since their territory is large. But it would require reasoning and less political b.s.

I believe that most folks don't have a problem with the Indians not wanting the pipeline. It's the imported "protesters" that most people object to. The oil companies and the tribe could probably reach an agreement if the environmentalists were not stirring shite up.

It does not pass through the tribes land. There is already a pipeline going through the area.

Why didn't they voice their displeasure at all the meeting that none of them showed up for to discuss the path of the pipeline?
