Sorry. Don't count, you earned that. You had a contract with the taxpayers when you joined up. You are now cashing in that on that agreement. However, you are correct. You get lumped into the 47%. It's a misleading number just as many the dem's use are. You're taxes were paid in blood, sweat and tears.

If for mandatory service for all btw. 2-3 years after highschool.

THe avereage taxpayer thinks the 47% are leeches because Mitt says so.

The average taxpayer also has had some point in their adult lives when then were IN the 47% - but that's not relevant. All that matter is those leaches!

I've got mixed feelings about this. I had two friends who spent a little time in the service, never abroad and ended up cashing in on the benefits. One had some parasite which prevented him from being stationed overseas, the other hurt his knee during exercises for the marine corps. Both were going to school when I went back, both were living better than I was and I was going to school full time and working full time.

They also convinced some other ex service guys to cash in as well. They got tuition paid, computers, housing allowance, disability, and all kind of other perks. Neither were really disabled, they just found an out of the service and a cash cow.

Both ended up working for the federal govt later in life, and I learned not to let this stuff bother me too much.

So you're firmly in the camp that our system is working and people are moving up the socioeconomic ladder.

So BOTH of you are on SSDI and early retirement?
WTF? And BOTH are on the GI bill?

What % is from each if that is the case?

Were you injured in combat service?

Neither of us collect SSI, only I'm retired. We are both rated disabled, she has a fairly low rating, I have a high one. The injuries for both of us are combat related. I receive an additional stipend for that. We're both on the GI Bill. Why wouldn't we be? We payed into it.

I believe if your rating is 80% or above, it's non-taxable. I'll have to double check. I've got to get to class, but I'll answer the other questions tonight.

It always boggles my mind how peoople suggest you're somehow "undeserving" in a situation like this. They had the same chances to sign up as you.

You might have the ability to "sign up" for something, or it might be available to you. This doesn't mean that you are deserving.

We have millions of undeserving fricks taking shite for which they "signed up".

I have little doubt I could qualify for disability, but I know I don't deserve it, so I won't be signing up.

And no, the OP doesn't "deserve" $90,000 a year. That's absurd.

As I see it, the real problem is the OP's Bama affiliation.

So do you work for that 90k, or are you getting 90k through pensions, disability, etc...

No, that 90k is completely comprised of benefits, entitlements, whatever you want to call them. This will go down quite a bit when we get out of school. While we're in school we get 3k a month for housing allowance

Also, does your disability prevent you from being able to work? Is your wife also disabled? A lot of questions are out there in order to form an honest opinion.

Yes, I can work, but I'm a full-time student at the moment. My wife is also disabled, but with a lower rating.

I looked it up. It's not based on percentages, it's because they are combat related.

Because I'm retired and won't have any student loan debt. It frees me up to follow my interests. I'm also not getting raped by healthcare.

90 grand in the clear is like 130k in real earnings.

that's about double that of the National average household income... and you're students not employees.

So yes it's on the high side by a substantial margin.

What are you going to do after you graduate?

Thanks for serving!
