Commanding general of D.C. National Guard order removed from post 1/20 12:01p.m.

Per the Washington Post
"The U.S. Army general who heads the D.C. National Guard and is an integral part of overseeing the inauguration said Friday he has been ordered removed from command effective Jan. 20, 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president..."
Does anyone know what the reason(s) behind this might be? Can anyone with current or former military experience shed any light?

The general is appointed by the President and serves at his will. I believe that only a sitting President can ask for his removal/transfer, which would have to come through the COC, I would expect.
In other words, this is the Obama Administration and/or current DOD at work, not Trump.

Seems like he doesn't want to serve under trump or he's made some feelings known to that sort.
If he had done anything immoral or it was something illegal contrary to my assumption it would be immediate, and not centered around the day trump becomes CiC

the DC National Guard is a bit different...as there is no Governor and the Mayor doesn't appoint the TAG....
that being said, the TAG in ALL states and territories is a political appointment, Louisiana is a bit unusual in that TAGs don't change that often...in other states, TAGs change with the governor

Yep, and is the Trump transition team aware that they have to order a replacement? This job orders all of the police protection, organization of local DC; outside of the secret service.

General Schwartz was appointed by GWB. He was never ordered out effective 1/20 12:01p.m.
