Comey Violated 2 Federal Statutes by Leaking Documents

Fox News Law expert on Hannity just said Comey "better get a really good criminal defense attorney" because he violated the federal records act.
Federal Records Act and Federal Records Management both state its a Crime to leak UN-classified government docs.
"one may not take and convert government documents for ones own purposes."

The records comey released weren't classified.

Comey leaked memos of a private conversation that Trump initiated. None of it is classified. Try again.

I don't think you understand the OP. The documents do not have to be classified. Taking UNCLASSIFIED government documents and using them for your own purposes is illegal. Greg Jarrett cited two separate statutes in the law that covers this.

Lock him up

What’s more, the civil sanctions provided in these laws can be applied only to people who still remain federal employees at the time at which their violation is discovered and acted upon. In other words, if you violate these laws and then leave government service quickly enough, you are beyond the reach of their penalties. Indeed, a common refrain among political appointees during the latter part of the George W. Bush Administration was: “That’s OK, because by the time anyone finds out about it, we’ll be long gone.”
Comey is a wily MF

I don't understand why. His memo's were not evidence or logged into the FBI data base.
That means it is not a federal record. Since it is not a federal record or classified info he can leak whatever he wants. It was probably not the right thing to do, but not illegal.

Depends on how one defines it. This will be up to the lawyers to argue. But we do know some of the memos were typed on his classified FBI laptop.

The intelligence correspondent on Fox (Catherine Heatheredge (sp?)) remarked today that the FBI itself may be making a referral to the IG based on Mr. Comey's conduct. This would be based not on criminal statutes, per se, but violation of his term and conditions of his employment.
[The above is somewhat poorly worded but follow please.]
The former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation testified today before Congress that he intentionally leaked his notes with regard to a private meeting with the President of the United State of America for the stated purpose of attempting to influence the decision to have a special prosecutor appointed.
If you work for the FBI how could Mr. Comey's testimony today not been a serious WTF moment. Your former boss admitting, both under oath as well as quite cavalierly, that he intentionally published his work memoranda to serve his own personal agenda - whatever that is.
The FBI took a black eye, a purple nurple, and rusty nail in the arse today.
While the cat is certainly out of the bag, thus precluding the issue to be handled in-house, I think it go would a long way toward regaining public trust for the FBI to cleanse their own house from the inside.

If Comey manages to sabotage both Hillary and Trump we should build a monument for this grandstanding nutjob!

So you think that memos from the director of Federal Bureau of Investigation that are recorded... are not on on federal record?
