In an interview published Sunday in the Hollywood Reporter, Bush opened up for the first time since last fall about the now infamous exchange, in which Trump was caught on a hot microphone bragging about kissing, groping and trying to have sex with women.

“Looking back upon what was said on that bus,” Bush said, “I wish I had changed the topic. [Trump] liked TV and competition. I could’ve said, ‘Can you believe the ratings on whatever?’ But I didn’t have the strength of character to do it.”

Bush said he has only seen the tape three times: once just a few days before it was made public and twice more before his Hollywood Reporter interview. Every time, he said, it “totally and completely gutted” him.

The Hollywood Reporter asked how it felt that Bush got fired over the tape while Trump became president.

“I will admit that the irony is glaring,” Bush said.

“When a woman watches that tape,” he added, “they may be asking themselves, ‘Is that what happens when I walk out of a room? When I walk out of a meeting, is that what they’re saying about me? Are they sizing me up?’ I can’t live with that. If a moment like that arose again, I would shut it down quickly. I am in the women-raising business, exclusively.”

Bush told the Hollywood Reporter that covering Trump was one of his main assignments at “Access Hollywood.” The show tried to score interviews with Trump three times a week, knowing that segments about him would get viewers’ attention, he said.

“That was my job, and I did it well,” Bush said. “I got access to Trump. And in my job, there’s a lot of downtime, and there are off-camera moments where you have a short period of time to, in a chameleonlike way, connect with people.”

Trump probably didn’t know he was being recorded on the bus in 2005, according to Bush. He compared Trump to the comedian Andrew Dice Clay, saying he’d heard him say shocking things but never anything so extreme up to that point.

Bush told the Hollywood Reporter: “When he said what he said, I’d like to think if I had thought for a minute that there was a grown man detailing his sexual assault strategy to me, I’d have called the FBI.”

Wow, that's really lame.

LOL.

I guess Bush is kissing the feet of his corporate masters trying to get back on TV?

Yeah, I read his interview this morning. He is regretting the day he let that pre-interview discussion get out of control. Dems don't play when it comes to dumping the dirt.

I'm not interested in this guy one way or the other, but he was a victim of the PC Police. He never should've lost his job over this.

Meanwhile, the real irony here was the media's fascination, even obsession, with an 11 year-old private conversation. Yet, CURRENT emails regarding private conversations by Hillary, Huma, Peristaltic, the DNC, etc. was reported as the worst invasion of privacy ever.

Go figure, huh?

That is sort of beautiful irony, isn't it?

Crap...my wife assures me that women are worse than men in this regard. Crude and unnecessary stuff comes out of their mouths. She hates working with women, which is exactly what she does.

Yeah, that was my impression too.

The discussion was crude and distasteful, which does in fact appear to be par for the course for Trump, but give me a break with the melodramatic hyperbole. The guy thought he was in private and having a playful conversation with another guy about an attractive woman. Bush is playing the game now to try and extricate himself from getting tarred by being a part of it.

As if Bill Clinton didn't talk like this in private. Trump's probably a sleazeball in his personal life and speaks lewdly with comfort, but that's not tantamount to planning sexual assault nor is it terribly uncommon behavior. I'm not sure any man here hasn't been in a conversation where language like that has been used before.

He should be embarrassed by it and it's no one's fault but his own but my God is it pathetic watching political enemies transparently blow it out of proportion.

I find what he is saying in this article to be way more embarrassing than the original conversation.

Yeah he doesn't get to play the high road 12 years after the fact just because he got heat for it.

I meant that Trump should be embarrassed by it. And yes, everything Bush said in this article was cringey AF. Again, it's so transparent what he's trying to do with his comments. Sure, I'll jump on and play ball with the narrative and you absolve me of my involvement and any criticism so I can get back on air.

Id commit career suicide in that interview. I'd be honest.

A. That's how a LOT of silly assed men talking in locker rooms. I've never claimed to grab poon by the poon, but I've said dumb shite.

B. Bush is the interviewer. It's part of the job to keep your subject happy. Especially for the type interview at the time. To get blustery and offended would have probably cost him the interview then and probably job.
