Includes payroll and estate tax as well.

I'm surprised California (probably large agricultural deductions) and Wisconsin rank as low as they do. I'm surprised Minnesota ranks as high as it does.

Why would you be surprised at California? They're taking all my tax money and giving it to illegals!

Important caveat...these rankings are per capita.

Yep. And I think only about 40% of citizens work full-time, so maybe multiply these figures by a factor of 2.5 to get an estimate for the average full-time worker.

EDIT: A factor of 2.5 would seem to be too much, but you get the idea.

He said he was surprised California's taxes paid amount is so LOW, not high.

Yep, the caveat is California has about 37 million legal residents, and 2.5 million illegal ones mixed in that 'per capita' number.

I admit I farm for a living so I do not know what tax deductions "legitimate" business are allowed. Do all businesses not get to write off expenses?

According to Politifact, California received $0.99 for $1. Hardly the massive amount liberals decry at every corner.
The interesting part is how many red states received less federal dollars than given which goes against the blue state gets back less meme.

The video in the link in the OP is confusing.

The talking head mentions Minnesota being so high on the list because of the "progressive" nature of taxes in that state but the text says the taxes included are federal income, payroll taxes and estate taxes and nothing about state taxes being included.

Something doesn't add up between those statements.
