I hope Spencer sues UF for not providing a venue for him to march. UF may win because universities get some leeway with the First Amendment due to their charge of preserving a peaceful learning environment.

However, I hope he seeks a permit for a legitimate public space, gets denied, sues, and wins. The hecklers veto that ANTIFA keeps playing need to be slapped down.

Right. And we agree there. When newspapers like the New York Times put out editorials damning the ACLU for stepping up for free speech it is worrisome.

Worrying about the deterioration of constitutional rights is pouting?

Yet, is ok to go Defcon 1 thinking a small group of uneducated and unorganized Nazis because you think they may take over the world?

OK.

White nationalists over the last two years have made their presence felt in the national discourse more than they had in decades. That is partly because the far right has been emboldened by President Trump, who has been reluctant to condemn white nationalists. Meanwhile, much of the newfound interest in the A.C.L.U. has been driven by opposition to the president’s policies. As future cases involving the free speech rights of white supremacists surface, it remains to be seen how the events in Charlottesville may affect the A.C.L.U.’s response. “The death may make people have second thoughts — I surely hope not.” Mr. Goldberger said. “This is a real crossroads for the A.C.L.U., and I think it’s going to choose the right road.”

Op-ed

The A.C.L.U. needs a more contextual, creative advocacy when it comes to how it defends the freedom of speech. The group should imagine a holistic picture of how speech rights are under attack right now, not focus on only First Amendment case law. It must research how new threats to speech are connected to one another and to right-wing power. Acknowledging how criminal laws, voting laws, immigration laws, education laws and laws governing corporations can also curb expression would help it develop better policy positions. Sometimes standing on the wrong side of history in defense of a cause you think is right is still just standing on the wrong side of history.

youre losing. with more and faster ways to spread information every day, the country is seeing your racism and bigotry for what it is, you cant hide who you are anymore, and people are disgusted.

Trump won. GOP owns local elections. Facts not in evidence.

I've gotta be honest... I have no idea what the author is trying to convey here.

I'm conservative to the bone.
Without providing personal details about my life, no one who meets me would ever characterize me as racist or bigoted.
I am, however, a strong Christian.
And MastrShake, tonight I will talk to God about your misconceptions and hate.

Interesting.

Dems have lost nearly 1100 seats at all levels (and counting), but you double down in identity politics while calling people racists.

I'll ask the same of you as I asked another proggie in another thread. I've been off the Proggie Plantation for almost a decade now, so forgive me.

But what do you and your ilk call the blacks, Hispanics, and the Muslim people I know that all voted for Trump? You know, since they are obviously raging racists and all.

PS - They were all like me as well...at one point in time they voted straight D....but they are tired of...

Drum roll....

People like you!

2/4 presidents since 1992 have been GOP (thats half, since youre slow)

GOP has owned legislation for most of that time. Still owns it. Owns USSC.

Facts not in evidence.

One could say that you are ignoring the more pertinent trends.

Oh,

And one more thing, and this will be my last reply to you as I see you are on the level of BamaATL and other mentally unstable posters...

That poster you just called a racist? Yeah, if memory serves, he lives in a diverse family unit. Sort of like Pimp. So while you only imagine that you make a difference in bringing everyone together, he actually lives it.

The power you people have by being able to label anyone you hate a racist is scary. I had to deal with it first hand and that is why I no longer participate in the Proggie Plantation.
