That's funny. I was accused of lying by someone who said I said something I didn't say. It was HE who lied.

I don't lie.

Let the record show that lots of people love to lie about me. They're not strong on rebuttal so have to take whatever shots they're capable of, including falsehoods about my character, my history, and even my wife.

In this very thread, BBonds25 accused me of saying something I didn't say, and called me a liar for it. It's all there in black and white.

I don't lie.

And although this is a world of fun I have to go to bed.

No, he's just that obtuse. If you go over to the Shag Cloak Room, there are a few just like him.

Let the record show I am not in any way defending your opinions on the issues of the IRS, only your right to be able to post without being attacked personally.

Eta: and why won't you address requests 4 and 5, as I respectfully pointed out, and reconcile it to the claim that the letter did not address targeting?

Well Rex, let's see for ourselves . . . . might the Camp letter have alerted Lerner she needed to dump evidence?
There is nothing in that letter that would lead me to believe that someone would react by dumping their computer's hard drive. It looks like some pretty tame requests.

Yes, it's about gift tax returns, not the alleged tax exemption targeting of conservative groups.
You are playing the fool again I see. You want to pretend the IRS investigation of 5 taxpayers is unrelated. Just how many donors to 501(c)(4) organizations do you think the IRS investigate prior to the inappropriate targeting of conservative organizations?
quote:

Are contributions to social welfare organizations subject to gift tax?

Maybe, but not at the moment. Contributions to § 501(c)(3) and § 527 organizations are specifically exempted from gift tax, but there is not a similar exemption for contributions to 501(c)(4) organizations. Many commentators, including me, have argued that social welfare organizations are subject to gift tax. Others argue that the donors are receiving something in exchange for the contribution and the contribution is therefore not a gift. On July 7, 2011, the IRS announced it would not take enforcement action against people who made donations to social welfare organizations. The IRS issued the following statement:

Recently, questions have arisen regarding the applicability of the gift tax to contributions to 501(c)(4) organizations. The Internal Revenue Service has little history to draw from in this area and the limited guidance we previously issued on this matter is almost thirty years old.

While we review the need for additional guidance or legislation, we will not use resources to pursue examinations on this issue. Any future action we take will be prospective and after notice to the public.

As we consider this issue, it is possible that Congress may choose to clearly articulate through legislation the applicability of the gift tax to contributions to 501(c)(4) organizations.
LINK Just another coincidence that the IRS would do something it hadn't done for 30 years involving 501(c)(4)'s at the same time as the inappropriate targeting was occurring.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

don't believe anything the wapo might say about this

If lib assholes can denigrate anything appearing on Fox just because it is on Fox than nothing from that piece of shite mouthpiece fishwrap for this admin is worth quoting either.

Man, using lib arguing techniques sure makes things easy!

We need opposing viewpoints to at least make us ridicule their posts and viewpoints. Occasionally, I have changed my opinions on a few subjects after being exposed to differing viewpoints here and elsewhere. I try to apply critical thinking to everything and make my own decisions. However, we are all skewed by whom we get our info from. I applaud Rex and the other libs for coming on and butting heads with a predominately conservative board. As fricking insane and retarded as they may seem, they serve as a balance to a unopposed circle jerk that would exist if not for them.

ETA-I've had a sleeping pill, a pain reliever, muscle relaxer and a beer. I hope this post and edit was/is coherent.

He's discussing the linked article. Are you also saying there's no way the WAPO writer can believe what he's writing?

Perhaps if you and your cohorts would back off the personal attacks and discuss the article you could have a serious discussion.

Did you read what he posted? Before you posted this he never said 501c4 so how could he lie and say he said the letter wasn't about 501c4?

I think you owe Rex an apology.

I defended Rex and then asked direct questions about the linked letter. Apparently yall are not truthful in saying you want discussion.

And his thread title itself goes against what is in the letter. The letter absolutely requests information regarding targeting of 501c4 organizations.

Please. Like a serious discussion is possible with you or rex. The left is correct 100% of the time in your worlds. Things that caused you 2 to post thousands of times in prior administrations are ignored

But if the factors that the IRS used in determining those donors needed audits were any in way tied to the policies that the IRS used in targeting tea party groups then this whole discussion changes.

It is a bit too bold to state that the letter conclusively led to the "computer crashes." It's not at all bold to say that the timing stinks and that it all looks like corruption.
