As far as medical care goes, I get the feeling that...

...the end goal is to lower the standard of care in America. This will help make it less expensive.

Am I wrong (I hope I'm wrong)? What am I missing?

Or maybe the standard of care in the US isn't really as good as you think it is, and the goal is actually is to no longer pay for a standard way higher than what we are receiving.

No.

Unfortunately you aren't.

Increasingly, care characteristics and decisions are being determined by administrators devoid of any clinical background or training.

Obamacare furthers that.

Yea, the cost just disappears, right?

The cost is displaced, Otto. Lower medical costs across the pond are offset by 30-40% higher taxation rates.

The end goal is the government trying to assert more power over your life, claiming it has the right to do so now that it's paying the HC bills.

Emperor Bloomberg's famous edicts are just market research.

The quality of care in the US is extremely high to those who can afford it. Using the term "standard of care"... you may be correct because not everyone can afford top care.

In New York there is discussion of not paying the costs of cigarette users or obese people to save the system money. But we are not going to call the committee a "death panel" when they make the decision to deny health care.

One, I'm still not otto.
Two, I am not talking about how much you, I or the government pays, I am talking about how much the US as a whole spends on healthcare. We spend 50% more per capita then any other OECD country LINK Do you think our care is really 50% better?

The cost of government provide healthcare is going to have to go down, and with it standard of care. It's unavoidable.

Sort of. The goal is to make it a commodity, rather than a personalized service. Which in the end will drastically lower the quality we've come to expect.

I am talking about how much the US as a whole spends on healthcare.
Healthcare, all in, is said to represent 1/6th of our economy.
Healthcare all in, refers to bandaids at Wal-Mart, toothpaste at the 7-11, construction of CVS stores, Walgreens advertisements, Chiropractics' yellow page listings, contents of the vitamin store, Herbalife stock price, etc.

Does the UK, France, Italy, or Canada assess those things as part of Medical Care costs in their countries??? Of course NOT!

Got it?

Does the United States?
Well . . . . US medical care is said to run $8000/capita.

Still with me?

US population = 314,000,000
US GDP =$15T
314,000,000 X $8000 = $2.5T

$2.5T = 1/6th of $15T

Questions?

I realize you may be relative new here, but this has been debunked on here numerous times.

We also attempt to save lives that most countries would have allowed to die, from very premature infants to critically ill elderly patients and everywhere in between. This skews our success rate and our cost per capita.

Go to a top 100 hospital and receive care. Then go to a government run hospital and tell me which one has a higher standard of care. We've had government funded hospitals forever and generally they are horrible. What makes you want to see this quality of care across the board?

I wonder what the intent of the Medical device tax is for? Revenue? Or less use? See, I just don't think the Gov't is trying to increase any standards, they just want to bring everything down...Look at their actions.

Actually, we have gotten pretty good at it. I know it adds cost to the per capita figures but I am not sure the success rates for the 2 cohort groups you mention serve to skew the overall or not.

It's all part of the class envy thing. People with more money can pay for better health care. Nothing will change that. But the libs are never going to stop trying, because they believe it's better for everybody to have crappy healthcare than for some to have better health care.

That's fairness and equality in their minds.

Why yes, that is the precise goal. Obama, his advisers and the Democratic party got together and decided the standard of medical care in America is just too damned high. They decided to do whatever they can to make sure healthcare providers delivered substandard care. You nailed it.
