They already have to be "looking for work." I've interviewed those types at fast food places I've managed. I'm not sure if it's intentional, but they give terrible interviews.

ETA: but what you are suggesting would be better if our government could be trusted to stick to it.

It's not often I agree with Tiger n Miami AU83, but when I do, it is usually emphatic agreement.

So, your point is that the poor do have it though, but conservatives are "meanies" who just don't care about them and this survey is proof, right?

quote:

“I’ve often said there are three questions that would destroy most of the arguments on the left.

The first is: ‘Compared to what?’

The second is: ‘At what cost?’

And the third is: ‘What hard evidence do you have?’

Now there are very few ideas on the left that can pass all of those…" - Dr. Thomas Sowell

I know, but none of them really look for work. I went on unemployment for a few months years ago. The system is a joke.I had to make a phone call once every two weeks and punch a few buttons in an automated system including saying I had applied for 3 jobs each week or something silly, then check was deposited. Total joke and laughable.

The system has to have a carrot and stick approach, instead of endless carrots. Have some hard asses running it and make it an opportunity that people have a limited period of time where they have benefits so they can develop a skill or trade for a year while having their basic necessities taken care of. Then if they don't develop that skill, they can be like a cheap labor force until they get motivated enough, drop out and make their own way 100%, orjust be cheap labor till they die.

And no going back to stage 1 or 2, or only like once per decade tops.

That's such a subjective phrase, "have it easy".

Compared to a millionaire? No

Compared to the impoverished in most other countries? Absolutely

Yeah. I was unemployment once and they didn't even try to verify what I was saying.

Not once. I changed careers into commercial lending during the housing boom. When it ended, I went and rented a condo on the beach for a couple of months and collected my checks while deciding what I wanted to do next. Made my decision, decided the company I wanted to work for and went and got the position.

But in the interim, I saw how easy it was to suckle the government teet. It was mindlessy simple. Pick up phone. Punch few buttons for less than 1 minutes, cash in bank account. I was like wow, this is neat and sorta fun.

Until yesterday I thought of myself as being in the middle class. My golf partner said he just bought a new motor home... 33 feet long.

Me: Does it have a flat screen TV?
Him: Four of them.

I now realize I'm living in poverty.

They do. In most places they would be left to fend for themselves.

Maybe because the "poor" choose to be poor and live off of everyone else. I'd say that's living life pretty easy. Scums of the earth

Then 14% are stupid.

By any reasonable comparison to the overall human condition, our poor have it VERY frickING EASY.

All of this arguing back and forth is really starting to aggravate me. Back and forth back and forth for no reason.

Meanwhile, Zach has let us know he now realizes he is poor. And we are doing nothing about it!
