Are some of you still against travel ban and extreme vetting?

If so, why? I'm just trying to wrap my brain around how the left thinks. TIA

Absent specific threat, which may or may not exist at the moment, a travel ban is probably extreme overkill for the US

I'm certainly in favor of a high bar to be cleared for refugees from conflict areas, though.

Against a travel ban? Of course. In favor of strong vetting and follow-ups, yes as well.

If the vetting process can't be performed to an acceptable level from said country, would you support a ban?

I'm all for a travel ban from areas with demonstrated hostility and/or a lack of usable skills that those traveling to the U.S. fall to demonstrate. Want to come and work here then you had better be able to bring something to the table.

Maybe I'll form an opinion on "extreme vetting" once someone explains what that means

How do you vet future children? Time and time again their offspring seem to be the problem.

No, but obviously very few or none would meet the vetting requirements if that were the case. No need for a ban.

Children generally share basic beliefs with their caregivers.

1. The travel ban was 90 days so it's already over anyway.

2. Extreme vetting? Yeah sure but what does that mean. The trump admin has offered no clarity.

Then why are the 1st gen less likely to become radicalized or commit an act of terrorism?
Do you think they are grooming their offspring?

Like you would any US citizen. If you detect contact with known terrorists, do heavy background checks.

Not so much in the internet age.

So, we haven't been doing that or has it just failed?

Then in essence it would be a ban.

Given that the order was suspended, no it isn't--but you already knew that.

Not necessarily, but I think they are less likely to intervene if their children are becoming radicalized.

That's different than-

No. It's just more complex.

So, they are radicalized because their parents secretly are radicalized?
