Today is a somber day and there won't be much laughing and carrying on today.
But holy shite I burst out laughing at this post. These fools would come out with an official statement claiming anything. "Yep we did it, he's one of us!"
They remind me of that guy that goes on fishing trips and takes a picture of the days catch that everyone participated in and posts it all over IG showing how awesome he is at fishing

If true, he will have left some evidence of it that he wanted found. It's not ISIS's typical MO to claim random incidents, OTOH they are on the ropes and may be desperate for something that keeps them relevant.

ISIS specifically mentioned Las Vegas in a May 2017 video. Which automatically puts this somewhere on the plausibility scale. A trip to Dubai make it a little more. A 64 year old white guy from Mesquite NV makes it a lot less...

The claim is official but its interpretation is suspect. Either people straight up won't believe ISIS' claim or they'll believe something with little evidence. Doesn't have much purpose to report imo but I guess it doesn't hurt much either.

I mean, if the claim is real (and not like some photoshopped fabrication), it's newsworthy IMO. For example, ISIS has not claimed the Edmonton attack.

I don't think anyone is doubting that ISIS has "formally" claimed the guy and his actions. The doubt is whether it's bullshite, or not.
That said, you are correct. Plenty of shite has gone down where they have not claimed responsibility.
